On Sunday September 20, my staff and I will be marching in the 7th annual Weymouth Irish Heritage Day parade.

The parade starts at 11 am from the Hamilton School, located at 400 Union Street. Following the parade, there will be a festival at Stella Tirrell Park on Central Street, featuring Irish music, dancing, and food.

The parade will begin down Union Street, from Central Street, to Camelot Way. Union Street from Central Street to Columbian Square will be closed during the parade.

I hope to see you all there! Time to celebrate being halfway to Saint Patrick's Day in the Town of Weymouth.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Declan Bergan earlier this week, a senior at Thayer Academy and the founder of his own program Cohasset Recycles. Declan has been working with local businesses, community members, and his peers to make his boat shrink wrap recycling program so successful.

Each winter, often cover their boats with plastic shrink wrap, in turn an estimated two million pounds of plastic boat shrink wrap are generated in Massachusetts annually. Declan is working to improve the numbers on the South Shore, working with marinas in Cohasset, Scituate, Weymouth, Hingham and Hull.

This is a very impressive initiative from such a young person and I was honored to present him with official Senate recognition for all the hard work that he has done to get his program off the ground.

You can visit https://cohassetrecycles.com/ to learn more about Declan's program and how to get involved.

I'd like to wish all our South Shore students and school faculty a very happy and safe start to the 2026-27 school year!

It's always great catching up with Julie Thompson on You the People for our quarterly legislative update. We were able to touch upon what's been happening up on Beacon Hill and throughout the South Shore during the spring and summer months.

You can catch this episode on both Norwell Spotlight TV and Harbor Media, or watch it online here- https://bit.ly/4y1SzvD

It was awesome to join Blades, former Bruin Tim Sweeney, Representative Meschino, and members of the community at the Paul Pratt Library in Cohasset for the annual Summer Library Program, put on by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Boston Bruins.

Since 2009 millions of kids, teens, and adults have participated in this statewide program. The event included a hockey-themed story with Blades, crafts, games and more. I was happy to participate by asking trivia questions and participating in the activities of the day.

This was a wonderful way to celebrate a summer full of reading and I was happy to be a part of this event.
