On May 20th, the Consul General attended the opening of the special exhibition "The Artistry and Reunion of Two Surimono Albums" at the RISD Museum in Providence, Rhode Island (on view May 23 – October 4).
This exhibition focuses on surimono — woodblock prints combining poetry and imagery — collected by Osaka haiku poet Iga Kurimi and compiled into two accordion-fold albums. Surimono were privately commissioned in Japan in the 1820s–1830s, and are celebrated as exquisite works of craft, featuring the finest washi paper, metallic pigments, and blind embossing (karazuri). This exhibition brings the two albums together for the first time in approximately 170 years — a testament to the enduring human and cultural connections between the United States and Japan, and between Rhode Island and Chiba Prefecture.

5月20日、髙橋総領事はロードアイランド州プロビデンスのRISD美術館における特別展「The Artistry and Reunion of Two Surimono Albums」のオープニングに出席しました。
本企画展は、5月23日〜10月4日の会期で開催中であり、大阪の俳人依雅栗三（いが くりみ）が収集し、折帖2冊にまとめた摺物（すりもの）と呼ばれる詩と絵を組み合わせた版画をテーマとしています。摺物は1820〜30年代の日本で私的に注文・制作され、当時の最高品質の和紙や金属顔料、空押しなどの豪華な仕上げを施した工芸的な版画です。本展示は、RISD 美術館と千葉市美術館に別々に収蔵された折帖を約170年ぶりに巡り合わせ、一堂に展示する試みです。
髙橋総領事は、170年の時を超えた日米、及びロードアイランドと千葉県の人的、文化交流に思いをはせつつ、展示を楽しみました。
