On Sept. 11, we welcomed board members of the Japan University Karatedo Federation (JUKF) on their 70th anniversary. CG Takahashi encouraged them to serve as a bridge for Japan-U.S. sports exchange through Karate, including their participation in "Karate Hub" at MIT and Harvard University.

On September 3, DCG Consul General Maeda met with Brookline Police Police Chief Jennifer Paster. They discussed public safety and security for the many Japanese residents living in Brookline, as well as the importance of continued cooperation, information sharing, and emergency preparedness. They also exchanged views on expanding opportunities for women in law enforcement.

🌿On August 27, the Consulate General of Japan in Boston welcomed Mr. Seiho Umeno, landscape architect and CEO of Umebachien Co., Ltd., for a special presentation on Japanese gardens.

Drawing on Japanese history, philosophy, and nature, Mr. Umeno explored how gardens can serve as spaces for empathy, human connection, and international cultural exchange.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this a meaningful evening of cultural learning and exchange.🌸🍃

🌿8月27日、在ボストン日本国総領事館は、京都からお越しの庭園デザイナーであり株式会社梅鉢園代表取締役の梅野星歩氏をお招きし、日本文化紹介イベントを開催しました。
梅野氏は、日本庭園の背景にある歴史・哲学・自然について解説するとともに、「庭園は共感を分かち合う空間である」という視点から、日本庭園が国際的な文化交流や相互理解の促進に果たす役割についてご講演くださいました。

On August 26, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Numazu East High School in Shizuoka Prefecture. Consul General Takahashi shared his personal journey, recounting how his own high school visit to the US was instrumental in shaping his path to becoming a diplomat. He also expressed his hope that the students would become bridges between Japan and the U.S. in the future, taking advantage of this opportunity.

Did you know?! The mascot of WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INST., "Gompei," is actually named after Gompei Kuwada, the university's first Japanese student. Mr. Kuwada later found what is now Nihon Spindle Manufacturing Co., Ltd., making significant contributions to Japan's textile industry. It is also a cherished tradition at WPI for graduating students to touch Gompei's bronze statue during commencement ceremonies!


ご存じでしたか？！ウースター工科大学のマスコットキャラクター「Gompei」は、なんと同大学初の日本人留学生「桑田権平」氏から名付けられました。桑田氏は現在の日本スピンドル社の創業者で、日本の繊維産業の発展に多大な貢献をされました。WPIの卒業式では、学生がGompeiのブロンズ像に触れるという伝統があるそうです。
