Supporting neighbors at PACE Community Food Center in New Bedford is granting YouthWorks participants the opportunity to build valuable skills while making a difference in their community. PACE provides nutritious food and other essential items at no cost to community members. YouthWorks participants gain essential employment skills as they greet clients, enter data, keep the pantry stocked, and help visitors find what they need.

During a recent visit, Secretary Lauren Jones, State Representative Steven Ouellette, Alves Medeiros from State Representative Antonion Cabral’s Office, MassHire partners, and CommCorp staff heard directly from participants about what they are learning and how they hope to use those skills in their future careers. One participant shared that their experience at PACE helped her discover a talent and passion for human services. With plans to return to a post-secondary program, the hands-on experience she is gaining is helping her feel ready for the next step.

The visit highlighted how YouthWorks gives young people opportunities to explore career paths, gain hands-on experience, and build valuable skills, while also strengthening worksites and supporting local communities.
