Operation Kickstand: Downtown Officers Conduct Targeted Scooter, Moped, and Motorcycle Enforcement

At about 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) conducted Operation Kickstand, another targeted scooter, moped, and motorcycle enforcement initiative throughout Downtown.

This initiative was undertaken in response to continuing public safety and quality-of-life concerns associated with the increased presence and unlawful operation of scooters and mopeds within the district.

Throughout the initiative, officers towed six (6) mopeds and motorcycles, issued eleven (11) motor vehicle citations, made two (2) arrests for violations of the auto laws, and issued four (4) criminal summonses.

The Boston Police Department remains committed to improving traffic safety and will continue to conduct enforcement operations across the city.

Anyone with information related to similar illegal activity is encouraged to contact the Boston Police Department or call 911 in case of an emergency.

Man Arrested in Connection with Two Assaults in Downtown Boston.

At about 11:48 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, officers assigned to District 1 (Downtown) responded to two separate assault incidents in the Downtown area, which resulted in the arrest of Aaron Meuse, 42, of Boston.

Officers were met by the initial victim, who stated that he was picking up his prescription at a local pharmacy. The victim stated that he was assaulted by Aaron Meuse, 42. The victim stated that Meuse struck him twice on his right upper arm before fleeing the area. After a few moments, the victim observed two puncture marks and blood dripping from his arm. The victim and witnesses provided officers with a description of the male, and the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers then responded to a secondary incident in the area of West Street. Officers spoke with an additional victim, who stated that the suspect entered the bar and attempted to order a drink. The victim stated that the suspect then assaulted him before walking out of the bar. The victim sustained a minor laceration to the neck area and successfully flagged down Suffolk University Police sergeants in the area for further assistance. With the assistance of Suffolk University Police, officers were able to safely place Aaron Meuse in handcuffs. The secondary victim was also transported to a local hospital for further evaluation with non-life-threatening injuries.

Aaron Meuse is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on the following charge:

17-year-old Arrested for Carrying a Loaded Fi***rm in Dorchester

At approximately 3:10 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old male and the recovery of a loaded fi***rm in the area of Harvard Street and Johnston Road in Dorchester.

While on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Abbot Street, officers observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Harvard Street and Johnston Road. Officers approached the vehicle and spoke to the operator.

As additional officers arrived on scene, the front passenger began displaying anxious behavior indicated by him breathing heavily, refusing eye contact with officers, and speaking in a barely audible tone. Officers removed the occupants from the vehicle and immediately located a fi***rm in the front passenger’s waistband. The suspect was taken into custody. The remaining occupants were identified and released from the scene.

The fi***rm was determined to be a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun loaded with four rounds of live am******on.

The 17-year-old suspect, of Quincy, is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Delinquent to wit; Carrying a Loaded Fi***rm without a License, Carrying a Fi***rm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Am******on without an FID Card.

The operator was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for a violation of the auto laws.

The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Officer John I. Jackson Who was Killed in the Line of Duty 97 Years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Officer John I. Jackson who died in the line of duty 97 Years ago today on September 4, 1929. Officer John Jackson was struck and killed by a drunk driver moments after he stepped off of a streetcar while walking his beat in West Roxbury. The driver who struck Jackson never stopped to render aid and fled the scene of the accident.

Moments later, a passing motorist, seeing the injured officer, stopped and transported Officer Jackson to an area hospital (Forest Hills Hospital) where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver who struck him later turned himself in and was charged with Manslaughter and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Although, the charges were later dropped.

Officer Jackson was 36-years-old and had served the Boston Police Department for 11 months. Officer Jackson was survived by his wife, and their two young children.

Officer Jackson was a recipient of the Victory Medal for his military service in France during WWI and was appointed to the Boston Police Department on November 19, 1928, and assigned to Division 17 in West Roxbury.

Officer Jackson was laid to rest at the Norden Cemetery in Uxbridge, MA. His name is located at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on Panel 60, West Line 5. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.

The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Patrolman Alfred M. Sturdivant Who was Killed in the Line of Duty 122 years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Officer Alfred Sturdivant, who was killed in the line of duty 122 years ago today on September 4, 1904. Officer Alfred Sturdivant was shot and killed after responding to a domestic disturbance at a home on Falcon Street in East Boston.

Officer Sturdivant was 47-years-old at the time of his death and served with the Boston Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and mother.

Officer Sturdivant was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA. His name is located at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on Panel 11, East Line 13. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.

In Boston, a Hero Sign has been placed in his honor in the area of Falcon Street and Putnam Street in East Boston. The sign is to forever honor the memory of a man who gave his life in service to his city. In Memoriam: The Boston Police Department Mourns The Passing Of Civilian Employee Vernelle Smalls-Cardona

The Department is saddened by the recent death of active duty civilian employee Mrs. Vernelle Smalls-Cardona, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. At the time of her passing, she was assigned as the Executive Secretary to the Family Justice Division.

Vernelle began her career with the Boston Police Department being appointed on September 11, 2000 as a Police Clerk assigned to the Information Systems Group. She was selected for a position in the Domestic Violence Unit as the Head Clerk in 2006 and was appointed the Executive Secretary in the Family Justice Division in 2013.

Vernelle was recognized in 2025 during the Boston Police Civilian Years of Service ceremony marking a milestone of 25 years of service. Vernelle was highly
motivated and relied upon by commanders, supervisors and those she worked alongside, all who held her in high esteem. She was kind and caring and a great friend and colleague to many.

Investigation Update: Suspect Arrested in Connection with Multiple Armed Robberies

About 8:15 PM, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, officers and detectives assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested John Kennedy, 38, of Dorchester, in the area of 13 Westcott Street. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was wanted on two warrants issued out of Suffolk Superior Court and Lawrence District Court for charges to include armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny from a person, and strangulation.

Kennedy is expected to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court and is additionally charged with the following offenses:

▪️Armed robbery
▪️Trespassing

The facts and circumstances surrounding the prior incident are as follows: About 7:59 AM, on Friday, August 28, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to the area of 124 Harvard Street, Dorchester, for a radio call of an armed robbery. The suspect brandished a knife and fled with approximately $250.

Later that evening at about 9:23 PM District B-3 officers responded to the area of 44 Norfolk Street, Dorchester for a report of an armed robbery. The convenience store was robbed at knifepoint. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

A third robbery occurred at about 5:52 PM, on Monday, August 31, 2026 in the area of 613 Park Street, Dorchester. The suspect assaulted the store employee and fled with approximately $1,500.

Traffic Enforcement Initiative Conducted in Jamaica Plain.

At about 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, officers assigned to District 13 (Jamaica Plain), assisted by the Auto Theft Unit, Boston Housing Authority Police, and the Boston Transportation Department, conducted a traffic enforcement initiative in the area of Bickford Street and Horan Way.

This enforcement initiative comes as the City of Boston continues to address felonious incidents involving operators of mopeds and motorcycles, while also curbing unsafe, illegal, and disruptive behavior.

Throughout the initiative, officers towed ten (10) mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles and seized one (1) illegitimate Massachusetts license plate.

The Boston Police Department remains committed to improving traffic safety and will continue to conduct enforcement operations across the city.

Investigation Update: Detectives Arrest Man in Connection with Mattapan Homicide.

At about 7:21 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Boston Police Homicide detectives arrived at the Worcester Police Department and arrested Lordly Churcher, 22, in connection with a homicide that occurred on August 17, 2026, at the intersection of Wilbert Road and Harvard Street.

The facts and circumstances surrounding the prior incident are as follows: On August 17, 2026, officers from District 3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person stabbed in the area of Wilbert Road and Harvard Street. Upon arrival, officers located the adult male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Lordly Churcher is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charge:

District 2 Continues Targeted Enforcement to Address Illegal Mopeds and Motorcycles.

At about 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, officers assigned to District 2 (Roxbury) conducted an enforcement initiative aimed at addressing quality-of-life issues, building trust with the community, and increasing police visibility throughout the Roxbury and Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston.

This initiative focuses on enforcing motor vehicle laws and city ordinances related to the safe and legal operation of scooters, mopeds, and motorcycles, while curbing unsafe, illegal, and disruptive behavior.

Throughout the operation, officers towed sixteen (16) mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles; towed two (2) cars for illegally attached license plates; issued twenty (20) citations; issued one (1) criminal summons; and arrested one (1) individual for operating a stolen motorcycle.

Throughout the summer, officers have continued to work diligently to make our streets safer. During the past month, District 2 officers have removed ninety (90) illegally operated mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles from our streets.

The Boston Police Department remains committed to improving traffic safety and will continue to conduct enforcement operations across the city.
