We are deeply heartbroken to hear of the passing of Yhinny Matos. Working alongside Yhinny as a City Councilor, I saw someone who didn’t just advocate for our city’s youth from behind a desk—she was out in the community every single day, doing the real work with an open heart, relentless energy, and pure love.

As an inaugural member of Santana’s CAPE and an incredible pillar at Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC), Yhinny was a close, irreplaceable partner in supporting Boston’s youth. She was especially instrumental with Santana’s Youth Force, making sure our young people always had a dedicated advocate in their corner. Yhinny consistently showed up for them. She believed deeply in their potential and worked tirelessly to ensure they had the real support and opportunities to thrive.

That’s a wrap! Santana’s Youth Force just completed their final summer workout with Backyard Fitness. Over the past few months, our youth showed up every single week to challenge themselves, build confidence, and support one another. We are so grateful to have partners who share our vision for empowering young people and providing them with positive, transformative opportunities.

A huge shoutout to Backyard Fitness and Officer Porter for making this weekly series possible. By creating an uplifting, encouraging environment centered on physical activity and personal development, you helped make holistic wellness an essential pillar of our youth programming!!

Public safety is a fundamental promise we owe to everyone who lives, works, and visits Boston.

Every day, unarmed security guards serve as an essential pillar of community safety across our city. Yet, Massachusetts currently has no mandatory baseline training standards for these frontline workers.

I am proud to partner with Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune and 32BJ SEIU to file legislation that changes that. By requiring employers to fund city-certified, accredited training in de-escalation, CPR, mental health awareness, and emergency response, we are moving Boston from reactive crisis management to proactive preparation.
