Some of the most powerful moments happen when somebody simply gets the mic and uses their voice.

Confidence doesn’t mean having everything figured out; it means being willing to speak up, show up, and take your space. Whether you’re standing in front of a crowd or finding your voice in everyday life, your perspective matters.

“You don’t need to sound like everybody else when your own voice is the one the room needs to hear.”

So this morning, Freedom House, let’s speak with courage, listen with intention, and remember: your voice is part of your freedom.

Good Morning Freedom House Family 🫶🏾

Listen… sometimes the best moments are the ones where absolutely NOTHING goes according to plan. 😂

Growth doesn’t always look polished. Sometimes it looks like missed lines, awkward moments, laughing when you’re supposed to be serious, and saying, “Wait… hold on, let’s do that again.”

“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.”

Bloopers remind us that we don’t have to be perfect to keep moving forward. We can laugh at ourselves, learn from the moment, and keep showing up. That’s freedom too; giving yourself permission to be human while you become who you’re meant to be.

So this morning, give yourself some grace. Take the pressure off. Laugh a little. Try again.

I want to acknowledge Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell for her leadership in helping secure the landmark $17.1 billion settlement with Meta.

Massachusetts helped lead the nationwide investigation into Instagram’s impact on young people, and in 2023, AG Campbell filed a lawsuit alleging that Meta knowingly designed its platform in ways that encouraged addiction among young users while placing growth and revenue ahead of their well-being. That leadership matters.

The settlement, which is still subject to court approval, is expected to bring at least $366 million to Massachusetts and require significant protections for young users.

As a parent, community leader, I believe that if money was recovered because young people were harmed, young people should directly benefit from it.

These resources could support mental health services, mentoring, afterschool and summer programs, youth employment, college and career readiness, sports, the arts and safe spaces where young people can connect and belong.

Thank you, Attorney General Campbell, and everyone who helped make this moment possible. Now young people, families and community organizations must have a meaningful voice in what happens next.

Accountability brought us to this moment. Intentional investment must carry us forward.

Massachusetts is expected to receive at least $366 million from the Meta settlement addressing the harm social media platforms have caused young people.

If money was recovered because young people were harmed, then young people should directly benefit from it.

This is an opportunity to invest in mental health support, mentoring, afterschool and summer programs, youth employment, college and career readiness, sports, the arts and safe spaces where young people can connect, belong and thrive.

Young people, families and community organizations must have a voice in deciding how these funds are used. We cannot be invited into the conversation after the decisions have already been made. Protecting young people online matters. Investing in their lives offline matters just as much.

Massachusetts has an opportunity to make a lasting difference. Let us make sure these resources truly reach our young people.
