“I would appreciate if the United States government [would] help me get united with my family. At least with my three sisters...they are stuck at home and they don't have the most basic rights a human, a woman could have in the world,” Liya, an Afghan immigrant who worked with the U.S. government in Afghanistan and fled when the Taliban took over, shared with WBUR 90.9 FM’s Tiziana Dearing. As we commemorate the 5-year anniversary of the Afghan evacuation, we are reminded that there are still so many in Afghanistan hoping to reunite with their families.

As we mark the five-year anniversary of the Afghan evacuation, IINE was proud to host a town hall in partnership with AfghanEvac and Massachusetts Afghan Alliance. Around 80 of our Afghan community members, many of whom once worked as allies to the U.S. government, gathered to discuss family reunification and relocation for their family and friends who remain stuck abroad. They also had a chance to ask questions about green cards, employment authorization documents, and asylum processing. We continue to urge Congress to reopen our doors to our Afghan allies and protect those at risk of deportation. Thank you to AfghanEvac and Massachusetts Afghan Alliancefor your important partnership in this work!

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, riders will cycle 12 (for new riders) or 50 miles (for more experienced cyclists). Your participation helps to raise funds that provide our refugee and immigrant community members with access to food, healthcare, housing, English-language classes, employment opportunities, and legal services.

Giving Community ✨ A youth group attending Service Camp at Boston's Trinity Church spent an afternoon assembling backpacks filled with supplies for young immigrants to take to school this fall. Each backpack also included a personalized note of welcome and encouragement. As they worked on the project, IINE Boston Volunteer Coordinator Evan shared more about IINE's work and then screened several Suitcase Stories® performances, so the campers could better understand the experiences and journeys of the immigrants they were helping. We thank the youth group for their compassion and dedication!

Kickstart Your Career in Healthcare 🩺 Join our FREE 10-week Pre-CNA program to help you prepare for a career as a certified nursing assistant (CNA)! Students will learn healthcare vocabulary, digital literacy, and receive assistance to enroll in a CNA training program and find a job in the healthcare industry. Students will also be provided with a Chromebook. The classes will run from September 14 - December 3, 2026.

Safe Drivers 🚙 🛞 Ten refugee and immigrant students attended Driver’s Ed classes at our Manchester office! They learned about the process of applying for their driver’s licenses, the basics of driving, the importance of insurance, what to do following an accident, and best practices for various road-related scenarios. Learning to drive is crucial for refugees and immigrants in New Hampshire, where there is limited transportation. Being able to drive makes it easier for them to go to work, attend school, visit the doctor, and more.
