One Family wishes everyone a Happy Pride Month!

June is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and joy of the LGBTQIA+ community, which has a deep and impactful history in the U.S.

While we celebrate the progress made in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights, we also recognize the difficult reality of increasing efforts to roll back hard-won rights and protections. These challenges remind us that Pride is not just a celebration, but a continued call to action.

One Family stands with the LGBTQIA+ community and believes that everyone deserves the right to live authentically, safely, and with dignity—and to have equitable rights regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of identity.

The One Family Scholars application is now open!

One Family Scholars program empowers single parents to receive comprehensive coaching and financial support to succeed in college and beyond. Support includes:

Coaching
- Academic success: study skills, campus resources, course planning
- Professional development: interviewing, networking, negotiation
- Leadership growth: advocacy, public speaking, storytelling
- Personal development: time management, childcare planning, support networks
- Financial wellness: credit, debt, savings, budgeting

Financial support
- Scholarship for tuition, fees, books, and supplies
- Stipend for additional expenses

To be eligible to apply, you must:
- Be a single parents (any gender) with children under age 18
- Be a MA residents who are U.S. citizen or permanent resident and eligible for federal financial aid (FAFSA)
- Have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level
- Be enrolled in (or planning to enroll in) a first associate or bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in MA

Last week at One Family’s Annual Celebration, we were privileged to be joined by Keith Mahoney, Vice President of Public Affairs at The Boston Foundation, pictured here with our very own Brad Kramer, Director of Public Policy.

Thank you for underscoring what we know to be true - that access to stable and affordable housing is fundamental to the public, economic, and moral health of our Commonwealth, and for emphasizing the cross-sector partnerships needed to make lasting progress. We are grateful for your leadership and for standing with families working toward stability and opportunity.

It is with great pride and gratitude that we thank our inspiring Annual Celebration speakers. From left to right:

- Maritza Hernandez, a One Family Scholar, who will graduate this spring with her Bachelor’s in Social Work.

- Nakita Haywood, One Family Scholar alumna and current member of our Advocacy Team, who will graduate this spring with her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling.

Thank you to the friends, partners, and supporters who joined us at our Annual Celebration last Tuesday. The morning was filled with meaningful conversation, shared purpose, and a strong commitment to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts.

We are grateful to be part of a community that believes in expanding access to education and advancing policies that help families secure stable housing, pursue family-sustaining employment, and build assets for long-term stability.

Together, we are working toward a Commonwealth where every family has the foundation they need to create a brighter future.

Every day, we work alongside hardworking mothers who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness as they move toward self-sufficiency. Whether earning degrees, improving credit, saving for a home, or building family-sustaining careers, these moms are taking meaningful steps to create stable, hopeful futures for their families.
