All three candidates for the position will present their vision and answer questions from the community. The event is slated for live coverage and is anticipated to be a significant moment for our community. The Black Agenda Coalition report rollout represents an effort to establish a collective political platform where Black and Brown Bostonians can voice their needs. The report's focus is on mobilizing action rather than relying on the benevolence of others or engaging in unproductive discussions without direction. It is imperative that our community's input is integral to any plan that affects us. Building on the legacy of our forebears, the BAC works to reclaim and advance Black Boston's interests. Our future is contingent upon our collective ability to unite and act decisively. Register now to participate in community conversations about the agenda and suggest new items.

On June 3, 2026, the City Council voted 8-5 to approve the Mayor's 1.7 million in Boston Public Schools cuts. 400 paraprofessionals lose their jobs come this September. These cuts leave our most vulnerable children without proper support. Councilors that voted yes had a song and dance that ended in off tune note: Louijeune, Breadon, Weber, FitzGerald, Durken, Zapata, Pepen, and Santana.

Ways and Means, Counselor Weber delivered the City budget amendments to the rest of Councilors during the hearing. Weber met with Wu administrators to discuss the amendments. While he denied Councilors their rights to meaningfully do so.

This led to mounting objections to Council President Breadon's 15 minute review of said amendments before a vote. Councilor Mejia led the objections and joined in by Culpepper, Murphy, Flynn, Worrell, and Fitzgerald. The community pressure this week culminated into a continued strong presence at the hearing. Reportedly, Counselor Weber was shaken from being exposed by fellow Councilors, community presence and phone calls throughout the week. He must didnt know: : aint- no- such-thing-as-half-way-crooks! Scared-to-death!!! Scared-to-look You-shook!!!"

President Breadon postpone the councilors meeting over the City operations budget amendments until next Wednesday. Now talk is Breadon is concerned over Weber's mental health? So they may request the hearing be done virtually! You just can't make this stuff up!!!

The Black Agenda Coalition invites the public to join a call-to-action this Monday and Tuesday by contacting their City Councilors to express support for amendments and restorations to the Mayor's FY2027 budget. Citizens can reach Councilors Weber at 617-635-4220, Santana at 617-635-4205, Louijeune at 617-635-4376, Breadon at 617-635-3113, Fitzgerald at 617-635-3455, and Pepen at 617-635-4210. By urging their elected representatives to amend and restore the proposed cuts, residents can ensure their voices are heard in the budgetary process. Rejecting the budget outright risks creating unnecessary back-and-forth between the Mayor's office and City Council; instead, we need Councilors to actively amend and restore the budget to address the proposed cuts.

On May 26, 2026, The Youth movement was out in force reclaiming their voices in strong opposition of the Mayor's FY2027 proposed budgetary cuts. Social services cuts that immensely impacts Youth summer jobs, Elderly and Racial Equity programs in the city. The coordinated protest began with a rally and ended with the Youth taking over parts of Congress Street. All this led to hours of live testimony before the Ways & Means Chairman, Benejamin Weber.

Mr Weber received his appointment to the Ways and Means Committee by elevating Liz Breadon to City Councilor President over Councilor Brian Worrell. This was purportedly done at the behest of Mayor Wu leading to a 7-6 vote by Councilors.

One has to ask themselves, why would Mayor Wu submit such controversial budget cuts? What has been happening lately in the communities most impacted by these cuts?

City Councilors most loyal to the Mayor: Henry Santana, Ruthzee Louijeune, and Enrique Pepen has been under great scrutiny by the Black & Brown community. Several community meetings throughout Roxbury were held about their (Councilors) 7-6 vote with the Mayor over their constituents priority. Community members voiced great distrust of the councilors given their consistent 7-6 vote and the public humiliation of a Blackman, city councilor Brian Worrell.

Despite political attempts by Wu allys to downplay community disatifaction by calling dissenters a small fraction. City Councilors have come to understand this sentiment is much stronger within this respective community.

Seemingly, these events has set the stage for much political theater. Is Mayor Wu helping her allys rebuild community trust by setting a stage to vote against her budget or is this a case of the Councilors can't win for losing? You decide.
