Congratulations to the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) and Beacon Communities on the completion of the final phase and 15-year redevelopment of Anne M. Lynch Homes at Old Colony, a public housing community in South Boston. In partnership with the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) and MassHousing, the redevelopment's completion marks the culmination of more than 15 years of collaboration, vision, and commitment in partnership with residents, community members, public agencies, labor partners, and private stakeholders working together to create modern, affordable homes and stronger connections for generations to come.

Housing Opportunities Unlimited is providing relocation services onsite to residents of Anne M. Lynch Homes at Old Colony and their families during the redevelopment project, helping them transition into their new homes.

The redevelopment of Old Colony was completed in six phases, transforming the homes of 887 households and adding 47 additional units to the 840 public housing units, which were replaced with modern affordable housing. In addition to new homes, walkways, and open space, residents can access educational and health programs at the Tierney Learning Center. Click the link to learn more about the Anne M. At Housing Opportunities Unlimited (HOU), we celebrate the profound impact of Black history every day. During Black History Month, we reflect on the fight for fair housing and the ongoing journey toward equity for all.

Affordable housing has been shaped by a history of discrimination, but HOU is committed to being part of the solution. We work with communities across the US, including Hawaii, and the US Virgin Islands, ensuring residents are treated fairly as neighborhoods are revitalized.

Together, we can build a more inclusive future.

The Clarendon Hill redevelopment in Somerville, MA, serves as an inspiring example of how collaborative planning and creative financing can make such a project possible. The project is a partnership with the Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), Somerville Housing Authority (SHA), and the Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), with funding support from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC), MassHousing, and the City of Somerville.

One of the first high-rise modular buildings in New England, the first phase began in early 2023 and will deliver 130 replacement units, replacing 216 deeply affordable state public housing units, and another 38 net-new affordable homes available to families earning at or below 80% of the area median income (AMI). Construction for phase 2 (92 apartments) is slated to begin in early 2026, and the third phase will follow with 331 apartments.

HOU has been working closely with residents to identify housing that meets their needs in a tight market, negotiating master leases with landlords, and serving as advocates and guides throughout the process. Residents are beginning to move back into newly completed buildings, marking a meaningful full-circle moment for the community.
