Boston Irish Famine Memorial The Memorial is part of the Boston Irish Heritage Trail.

The Boston Irish Famine Memorial was unveiled on June 28, 1998, as part of a worldwide commemoration marking the 150th anniversary of Ireland's Great Hunger from 1845-49.

Ireland's President Mary Robinson unveiled the Cambridge Irish Famine Memorial on July 23, 1997 before 4,000 people.
At the dedication ceremony, President Robinson said, “Part of looking back + remembering was to link the Irish famine with modern famine + hunger + inequalities in our world. .. to reinforce a very strong commitment of the Irish people to developing countries.….We’re not looking back for nostalgia, or simply for Irish purposes of identity, or to commend ourselves for having survived. We of Irish heritage have a particular reason to link ourselves to hunger, lack of safe water and malnutrition.”

The town of has a beautiful memorial to the victims of the 19th century. The memorial is located at St. Mary's Cemetery, which also has a famous Irish Round Tower, built in 1895.
