Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember the 2,977 lives lost, honor the first responders and emergency personnel who answered the call, and stand with the families and loved ones forever changed by that day.

Twenty-five years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Peter Kannler dedicated his career to protecting others. Today, his legacy lives on through the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services’ work to advance cancer awareness, prevention and early detection for firefighters across Massachusetts.

The Westfield Fire Department recently fought a home fire that started with an overloaded power strip. Most commercial power strips and extension cords can overheat and fail if used to power a heavy appliance or many smaller devices at once. Secretary Kwon and the EOPSS team were honored to join the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee, the Massachusetts State Police, and over 200 public safety professionals for the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s 3rd Annual Civil Rights Symposium!

Through interactive sessions and expert panel discussions, attendees dove into key topics including civil rights protections, hate crime investigations, implicit bias, and community policing.

Together, we are building trust, supporting victims, and strengthening public safety across every community in Massachusetts.
