Increasing levels of violence should have everyone concerned. In addition to last night’s homicide, BPD Officers responded to 189 incidents over a 24-hour period including 12 aggravated assaults, 15 larcenies, three auto thefts and two robberies. Make no mistake, crime is on the rise. If you want more safety, we need more cops.

Kevin Hayden should be ashamed. His decision to arrest a BPD Officer last March looks worse and worse by the day. Sadly a life was taken yesterday in Mattapan by an individual with zero regard for the safety and security of others. Somebody should tell the DA that this is what can happen when violent carjackers are allowed to simply drive away.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads out there, especially, the ones wearing blue working hard everyday to protect and serve those who live or visit one of the best cities in America. BTW: We love our cops. Happy Father’s Day!

The BPPA was proud to attend and support this year’s Boston Police Relief Association Memorial Day Service at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan which honors, remembers and celebrates the lives of Boston Police Officers, both active duty and retired, lost over the past year. May we forever be grateful to those who spent their lives committed to protecting and serving one of the greatest cities in America. May we forever be grateful for their service and the families who love and miss them everyday. God bless peacemakers and police officers everywhere.

NEVER FORGET: Patrolman Frank Sharkey, a 23-year veteran of the BPD, was 50-years-old at the time of his death. Over eight decades ago, he suffered a fatal heart attack after a physical altercation with an emotionally disturbed individual. Officer Sharkey died protecting and serving our community on June 3, 1942. Survived by his wife and four adult children, we will never forget his service and sacrifice to our City.

BPPA SUPPORTS NICK O’MALLEY: Dozens of Boston Police Officers, including BPPA President Larry Calderone, attended today’s arraignment at Suffolk Superior Court to show their support and solidarity for BPD Officer Nick O’Malley. Said Calderone, “We stand here today in support of Nick O’Malley, a police officer and innocent man who did nothing wrong except do his job. He stood up to a bully, a violent individual, who punched a woman in the face, stole her car and then wrecked it trying to run over and kill our cops. Do our officers have a right to protect and defend themselves? Of course they do. And, as we’ve said time and time again, had the suspect in this case simply complied, and chosen compliance over violence, there is no question, he’d be alive today.”
