Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) has been awarded a $300,000 grant through Louisiana’s Health Care Employment Reinvestment Opportunity (H.E.R.O.) Fund to launch its LPN-to-RN Rural Apprenticeship Pathway, helping address nursing shortages across northwest Louisiana.

The program will support 20 licensed practical nurses over two years, allowing them to continue working while earning their Associate of Science in Nursing degree and completing hands-on clinical training through partnerships with Willis-Knighton Health System and Minden Medical Center.

Graduates will transition directly into registered nurse positions upon completing the program and licensure requirements.

“This initiative creates new opportunities for healthcare professionals to advance their careers while continuing to serve their communities,” said BPCC Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Michael Whitaker.

The program is designed to reduce barriers to education, expand the rural nursing workforce, and strengthen healthcare access in underserved communities.
BPCC’s nursing program continues to set a high standard for excellence, recently achieving a 98.7% first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate, the highest reported in Louisiana, demonstrating the college’s commitment to preparing highly skilled nurses for the workforce.🩺❤️
