Tucked away in the beautiful Driftless Wisconsin River Valley, Boscobel is a beautiful community where you can raise a family and enjoy a career in policing. Boscobel is proud to be an "outdoor recreation destination," and 12-hour shifts allow officers to have a lot of time off to enjoy the great outdoors and all the area has to offer. In our department, it's okay to have fun and laugh and we strive to maintain a family oriented atmosphere. We believe in family first, and work together to ensure that family can be a priority for all. ⚠️ E-BIKE & E-SCOOTER SAFETY / LEGALITY REMINDER ⚠️
The Boscobel Police Department would like to remind the public that electric bicycles (e-bikes) and electric scooters (e-scooters) are becoming increasingly popular, and riders must follow Wisconsin traffic laws to help keep everyone safe.
Key points to remember:
• E-bikes and e-scooters are generally subject to the same rules of the road as bicycles. Riders must obey traffic signs, signals, and ride responsibly.
• No driver license, registration, or insurance is required for lawful e-bikes or e-scooters in Wisconsin.
• Wisconsin recognizes three classes of e-bikes. Riders under 16 years old may NOT operate a Class 3 e-bike.
• E-scooters cannot be operated on any public roadway, trail, or sidewalk, at a speed greater than 15 mph.
• Riders operating on roadways should ride as close as practicable to the right-hand side of the roadway unless conditions require otherwise.
• During hours of darkness, e-bikes and e-scooters must have a white front light visible from at least 500 feet and a red rear light or adequate reflector.
• Local ordinances restrict the operation of electric scooters and bikes on the sidewalks downtown.
• Not every electric “bike” sold online is street legal. Vehicles capable of excessive speeds or for e-bikes, lacking functional pedals, may be classified differently under Wisconsin law and may require registration and licensing.

Please ride safely, watch for pedestrians and traffic, wear a helmet, and help keep our streets, trails, and sidewalks, safe for everyone.

As another great year wraps up at the Boscobel Area Schools, BPD School Resource Officer Katelyn Schaefer invited Officer Cody McCollough and K9 Relic to visit the fifth grade class. After reviewing summer safety tips and considerations, K9 Relic demonstrated several ways he assists the Boscobel Police Department in protecting and serving the community. SRO Schaefer even took a “bite” for the crowd and helped break in the department’s new bite sleeve, courtesy of Total Upfitters, LLC.

A huge thanks to Total Upfitters LLC. of Boscobel, for donating a bite sleeve to the Boscobel K9 Unit. This equipment will help the BPD K9 unit conduct routine apprehension training, and is very appreciated!

Incident Summary:

On May 27, 2026, at approximately 6:08 PM, the Boscobel Police Department responded to the area of E. Bluff St. and Park St. for a report of a juvenile female stranded in Sanders Creek. The juvenile was unable to swim or return to shore after becoming stuck in the creek with a fishing hook embedded in her foot.

Upon arrival, officers observed the juvenile in a deep section of the creek with water up to her chin. An adult female bystander remained nearby and spoke with the juvenile to help keep her calm until emergency personnel arrived.

Without hesitation, Deputy Cody Trumm of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Officer Cody McCollough of the Boscobel Police Department removed their duty gear and entered the water. Working together, they freed the juvenile and carried her safely from the creek to awaiting EMS personnel.

Boscobel EMS removed the fishing hook from the juvenile’s foot, and she was later released to her mother at the scene.

The Boscobel Police Department would like to remind the community that, while Sanders Creek is a valued part of our community, it also presents potential hazards. Fishing hooks, broken glass, and other sharp objects may be present in the water, and appropriate footwear is strongly recommended. Additionally, some areas of the creek contain deeper water that may be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers. The use of flotation devices and active parental supervision is encouraged.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Boscobel community and the Boscobel Piggly Wiggly for making this year’s “Stuff the Cruiser” event such an overwhelming success.

Our community has clearly not forgotten what it means to be a good neighbor. It took many generous hearts to “Stuff the Cruiser” this year—and thanks to your support, we filled our squad car more than ever before. Your kindness and generosity will make a meaningful difference for many local families.

Following yesterday’s event, all donations were delivered to the Hildebrand Memorial Library and Backroads Church food pantries. If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity or is in need of personal care items such as toothpaste, deodorant, or other essentials, please do not hesitate to reach out to either organization—they are ready and willing to help.
