Fire hydrants save lives.
What you can do to help.
• Clear snow and ice at least three feet around every hydrant near your home or business.
• Keep a clear path from the street to the hydrant.
• Do not pile plowed snow on or in front of hydrants.
• Check hydrants again after each snowfall or plowing cycle.
• Remove ice buildup so caps and valves stay accessible.
Why this matters.
• Fire crews need immediate access to water.
• Blocked hydrants delay fire attack.
• Delays increase risk to occupants and firefighters.
• Clear hydrants improve response time for your entire neighborhood.
If you see a buried hydrant.
• Clear it if it is safe to do so.

You help protect your home and your neighbors when hydrants stay visible and accessible.
