Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the history of freedom, recognize the progress made, and continue the work of building a community rooted in respect, equality, and opportunity for all.
The City of Bordentown wishes residents a meaningful Juneteenth. ❤️
