🙋‍♀️ Volunteer for the 2026 National Recreational Boating Safety Survey! 🙋‍♂️

The National Recreational Boating Safety Survey (NRBSS) is a nationwide survey sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard to understand how many people go boating, what types of boats they use, and how often they are on the water. As part of the survey, we are asking for volunteers to complete a brief sign-up page asking about their boating habits and share their contact information with the Coast Guard so a wide range of boaters can be invited to participate in the larger NRBSS survey later in the year.

Today, the United States Coast Guard joins the entire Nation in honoring the brave men and women across all branches of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Whether on land, at sea, in the air, or in space, those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms share a unified legacy of courage, service, and devotion. On this Memorial Day, we remember our fallen heroes in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard.

We stand with their families, loved ones, and communities today and always. The weight of their sacrifice spans across every branch, and their memories will never be forgotten.

Semper Paratus.

Nobody plans to capsize. Prepare for the unexpected.

Have you gone through your checklist of safety equipment on your boat yet? Make sure everything is on board, working, and you know how to use it before your season on the water gets underway.

If there's one thing that never goes to plan, it's Maine's weather. Check it often, and postpone your trip if you're not sure. Remember, our waters are still cold in spring.

📯Hear Ye! Hear Ye! 📯

ICYMI: Earlier this week, Governor Janet Mills proclaimed May 16-22 as National Safe Boating Week officially in the State of Maine. In her proclamation she reminds all Mainers to wear their life jacket out boating. Remember nearly %85 of drowning deaths have occurred while an individual was not wearing a life jacket!

Thank you to everyone who helped safely dispose of their expired marine flares with us. Expired flares can be dangerous to handle and harmful to the environment, and they can’t be thrown away with regular household trash.

Because of your efforts, over 4,400 flares were safely collected in 2026 alone, bringing the total to nearly 14,000 since 2023. That’s a significant amount of hazardous material kept out of landfills and our waterways.

We’re proud to partner with organizations who make this program possible, and even more proud of the boating community that continues to show up and do the right thing. If you still have expired flares on board, keep an eye out for future collection opportunities.

Bravo Zulu to our active duty counterparts, U.S. Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, on an excellent, safe, efficient, and professional save! Through their efforts, three souls were saved on Wednesday.

Moments like these are not only harrowing accounts of courage and bravery, but reminders that it is necessary to take safety precautions when out boating. To quote the U.S. Coast Guard's official press release, "The mariners did not have a life raft or personal flotation device." The outcome of this situation could have easily been far worse.
