Boonville Residents- Please read the following notice from our Public Works Department. Your help allows us to spend less time and money on repairs, so we can focus more on other areas of improvement for our town. Thank you, Megan Sizemore

IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE: PROTECT OUR TOWN’S SEWER SYSTEM

Dear Residents,
Our Public Works team has recently experienced an alarming number of clogged pumps at our local sewer lift stations. These blockages are entirely caused by foreign objects being flushed down household toilets.
Our municipal pumps are engineered to handle wastewater, human waste, and standard toilet paper only.

The "Flushable" Myth:
Please be advised that items labeled and marketed as "flushable" or "disposable" (such as baby wipes, disinfecting wipes, and facial tissues) do not dissolve like toilet paper. They act like heavy ropes inside our machinery, wrapping around pump motors and causing them to burn out. This causes raw sewage to back up into residential basements and streets, creating expensive, hazardous emergencies.

Never Flush These Items (Place in Trash):
-All Wipes: Baby, cleaning, makeup, and "flushable" personal wipes
-Paper Goods: Paper towels, napkins, facial tissues
-Hygiene Products: Tampons, pads, plastic applicators, and condoms
-Other Trash: Dental floss, hair, cotton swabs, and bandages.

Repairing burned-out municipal infrastructure costs our town thousands of dollars per incident—expenses that ultimately impact local taxpayers and sewer rates.

Please protect your home plumbing and our community system by using your trash can. Trash it. Don't flush it!

Mayor Sizemore and Commissioner Johnson attended the PTRC’s Board of Delegates meeting in Kernersville today. Along with building connections with other government officials in the Piedmont, they were also able to discuss the below goals and tasks with PTRC employees.

Town of Boonville goals and tasks with PTRC:
-Updating our Town Ordinances
-Updating our Employee Handbook
-Extending the Double Bluff Walking Trail down the river to Boonville
-Creating a Greenway Loop around Boonville
-Senior housing opportunities

We are in the beginning stages of these discussions. In the coming months we will be seeking citizen participation and input, so please continue to follow us for updates.

Mayor Sizemore and Commissioner Green will be attending PTRC’s next meeting in August.
