Happy EMS week to all EMS personnel! A special shout-out to our team here at Cooper County—without you, we couldn't maintain and provide the outstanding service we strive for! 🚑💙

What is EMS Week. EMS Week (Emergency Medical Services Week) is an annual national campaign held in May to celebrate and honor EMTs, Paramedics, and all EMS practitioners. Established by President Gerald Ford in 1974, it recognizes these frontline professionals for their life-saving care, courage, and dedication to their communities. If you see any of these kind men and women out and about feel free to say hi!

A message from the EMS Chief Brandon Hicks

Thank you to the residents of Cooper County for your support in passing the recent tax increase. We truly appreciate your trust in us.
I want to take a moment to update you on what we’re doing moving forward.

We have officially filed the required ordinance with the Department of Revenue, which is part of the implementation process. The tax increase will not begin generating revenue until October 1st, with our first distribution expected around November 10th.

Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:
1. Plans for a second ambulance base have been developed.

2.Specifications for the new base have been established.

3.We are currently searching for at least 3.1 acres in the area between Highway 135 and Highway 5. We have identified a few potential options but want to ensure we select the best location. If you own land in this area—or know someone who does—and would be willing to discuss the possibility of an ambulance base, please reach out to me.

4.Beginning next week, we will be placing a third 16-hour ambulance into service. This may be somewhat limited during May, but it will be operating 7 days a week after that. Once the second base is completed, this unit will transition to a 24-hour truck.

5.We will also be staffing a supervisor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Thank you for your patience and continued support as we grow and improve our service to better serve Cooper County.

Looks like the crew is leaning into that "Mr. Miyagi" energy today! There’s nothing quite like the ritual of a post-run scrub down to keep the fleet looking sharp. Keeping the equipment clean isn't just about pride—it's about making sure everything is mission-ready for the next call. Keep up the outstanding work Tyler, Robert, and Abe.

Thank you for the continued support and trust you have placed in our team. We are deeply honored by the opportunity to serve this community. We are committed to going above and beyond to provide the best care and coverage possible. This goal is only achievable because of you. Cooper County thank you for being there for us, so we can be there for you! 🙏❤️

Today's the big day—get out there and vote! We appreciate all the support from everybody! 🗳️

here’s a simple breakdown of what we’re asking for and why it matters:
What we’re asking:
• Increase the sales tax from ¼% to ¾%
• Allow us access to USE tax (internet sales tax), which municipalities have been able to collect since 2018
Why we need this:
• Staff a much-needed 3rd 24-hour ambulance, 365 days a year
• Build an additional base near 135 & E Hwy to improve county coverage
• Replace 3 high-mileage ambulances
• Upgrade and expand Zoll equipment (cardiac monitors, ventilators, CPR devices)
• Add ultrasound capability to ambulances
• Stay competitive with wages and benefits to retain quality clinicians
• Keep up with rising costs of supplies, equipment, and fuel
• Begin developing a Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) program—partnering with local hospitals to reduce unnecessary transports and provide better care both locally and at home
We appreciate your continued support as we work to provide the best possible care for our community.

From Chief Hicks:
Thank you to everyone who came out to the open house! We know the fish was a big draw 😊, Thank you Darrell Harris! We truly appreciate you taking the time to tour the base, check out the equipment, and listen to Valerie Gamel and Nikki Ueligger share information about the baby box.
