The Bowman House and Museum will be open to the public Sunday, May 24th between 2:00pm – 4:30pm.

The time period is 1876. John E. Bowman and his wife Margaret (Stouffer) are celebrating the 100th birthday of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

Recently, John and Margaret found an old blanket chest filled with clothing that belonged to John Bowman’s grandparents, who migrated to this country in the mid 1700’s. These garments will be worn and displayed at the Bowman House.

Hearth cooking demonstrations will include recipes that our founding fathers would have prepared throughout the 18th century.

Additionally, we will have a demonstrations of handcrafted period skills (pottery, spinning, quilting & embroidery).

The Boonsboro Historical Society invites community members to present artifacts or family heirlooms related to the history of Boonsboro and Washington County on Tuesday, May 19th 6pm-8pm at the Boonsboro Free Library.
In the interest of time, individual presentations will be limited to ensure all guests may participate. Please be advised that fi****ms are not permitted on the premises. We look forward to an evening of local history and shared stories.

The Bowman House and Museum located at 323 N. Main St., Boonsboro, MD will be open on Sunday, April 26th between 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. for tours and more!

Denny will be cooking seasonal dishes using period recipes from the 18th & 19th century.

Throughout the day there will be period demonstrations of quilting, rug hooking, spinning, pottery and weather permitting candle making.

We are looking forward to sharing our interpretations of everyday historical life in Boonsboro, during the 18th and 19th century!

Last night at the Boonsboro Historical Society meeting we had several members of boonsborohigh come share about the schools We the People team. We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program is a prestigious national competition where student teams demonstrate knowledge of the U.S. Constitution through simulated congressional hearings. Boonsboro High School’s team has won state championships 11 times! Also we welcomed Natalie Debaugh, who created a winning “Under Construction” poster for the Boonsborough Museum of History.
This poster will be seen in the front window of the Boonsboro Museum of History Annex building while under restoration.
Thank you to Laura Oates Design and Mr. Fink who helped head up this project.

**Volunteer Call: Join Our Ongoing Stewardship Team**

The Boonsborough Museum of History and the Bowman House invite community members and friends to become part of a dedicated volunteer cadre committed to keeping these treasured landmarks looking their best year-round.

You will provide ongoing assistance with general maintenance and grounds care, including light landscaping, trimming, seasonal cleanup, minor interior and exterior upkeep, and other projects that help preserve the appearance and integrity of these historic properties.

By contributing your time and skills, you support historic preservation, strengthen civic pride, and help ensure that Boonsboro’s heritage remains vibrant and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

Whether you can assist occasionally or on a regular basis, your service makes a meaningful and lasting difference in protecting our shared history.
