The newly released publication "250th Washington County, MD, United In History", will be available for purchase at the Boonsboro Historical Society Information Booth #143-144, during Boonesborough Days, September 12th & 13th, 2026.

This commemorative book celebrates and captures Washington County’s 250-year journey through a collection of stories, photographs and historical accounts.

From its earliest settlements to its role in shaping the nation, Washington County’s rich heritage is preserved within these pages, honoring the people, places and events that have defined our community for generations.

The Boonsboro Historical Society will be selling this publication for $20 each.

Mark P. Brugh is a longtime Civil War historian and the founder of Sharpsburg Civil War Ghost Tours.

The Bowman House & Museum, located at 323 N. Main St., Boonsboro, MD, will be open to visitors on Sunday, September 27th between 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hearth Cooking Demonstration will include recipes used by our founding father’s and recipes from a local cookbook compiled by Maude A. Bomberger, “Colonial Recipes from Old Virginia and Maryland Manors”.

In addition, we will be discussing the preserving of vegetables, fruits and herbs for use during the winter months.

Weather permitting we will also be demonstrating candle making. Check back closer to Sep. 27th for additional period demonstrations.

The Bowman House will be open for self-guided tours, as will our raised bed vegetable garden for planting and gardening techniques.

National Road Heritage Foundation welcomes author and historian Brady Crytzer who will be speaking on his new book: "The National Road - George Washington and Americas First Highway West."

National Night Out is tonight, Tuesday, August 4 from 5:30pm-8pm, at Shafer Park. Bring the family and meet your local officers from the Boonsboro Police Department.

"Boonsboro recognized the need for detention of lawbreakers in 1835 and engaged John Fague to construct a stone jail just west of Trinity Reformed Church on Potomac Street for a reported cost of $45. It came to be known as the “Old Jug” and served its purpose for 80 years until its demolition about 1915 (shown in photo). Boonsboro operated a town police department in the 1970’s and from 1980 to 2005 the town looked to the Maryland State Police and Washington County Sheriff for protection. Boonsboro has had its own police force since 2005."

NNO is an annual community-building campaign featuring fun, food and safety demonstrations designed to enhance relationships between neighbors and law enforcement.
