To the Wonderful Community of Booneville,
After 12 incredible, unforgettable years of serving as your City Clerk, I am writing to share some bittersweet but very exciting news. I have decided not to run for re-election, and I will officially be retiring on December 31, 2026!
Looking back on how this journey started, I can’t help but smile. Twelve years ago, I jumped into my very first election facing two opponents and a whole lot of nerves. Through outstanding grit and determination, I campaigned with my supporters to prove that I would be the perfect fit for the role. Once elected, I dug in deep, remembering all of you who worked so hard to put me here. I knew I wouldn’t let you down. I guess you all liked the job I did, because you let me run completely unopposed for the next two elections, allowing me to further serve you and the City.
I want to extend my deepest, most heartfelt thanks to the entire city for your immense trust, and to every single citizen who voted for me over the years. That confidence meant the world to me. I want to reaffirm to all of you that throughout my three terms, I have always done my absolute best to uphold the high standards and values you elected me to protect, always remembering that it was you who put me here, and you who I was serving. I poured my heart into this role, and it has been the absolute honor of a lifetime to serve you.
While I am going to miss the daily hustle and bustle of City Hall and seeing your faces every day, I am so excited for what comes next! My retirement checklist is already packed with things I love:
• Soaking up every single minute of well-deserved quality time with my loved ones.
• Giving my sweet pup, Lady, all the extra belly rubs, treats, and long walks she can handle.
Thank you, Booneville, for your unwavering support, your trust, and for allowing me to be a part of our city’s history. The future of our town is so bright, and I can't wait to watch it continue to grow – only instead of from my desk, it’ll be from my front porch with coffee in hand and slippers afoot!
With love and gratitude,
Gayleene West Booneville City Clerk
