This weekend, two of our members attended a CO₂ emergencies course at the Mississippi State Fire Academy, sponsored and presented by ExxonMobil Pipeline Company.

Chief Jeremy Davis and Training Officer Chris Shadburn returned with invaluable knowledge that they are eager to share with both our department and the community we serve.

We are extremely grateful to the instructors at the Mississippi State Fire Academy and ExxonMobil for their depth of knowledge and their commitment to educating fire personnel across the state and beyond.

Please refrain from outside burning! We have responded to multiple fires and currently have multiple crews on fires throughout the county. There have also been personnel injuries as well as tangential civilian injuries due to fire suppression and response efforts.

🚩 URGENT: HEIGHTENED WILDFIRE RISK THIS WEEKEND

Mississippi, please stay alert! A combination of low humidity and high winds is predicted to create critical wildfire conditions across the state this weekend. Our current environment is particularly vulnerable due to:

🔥 Ongoing Dry Conditions: Soil moisture is low, making vegetation easy to ignite.
🔥Increased Fuel Loads: Debris and "dry fuel" from recent natural disasters (including the February winter storms) have created extra fodder for rapid fire spread.
🔥High Wind Gusts: Winds can carry embers up to half a mile, starting new "spot fires" far from the original source.

🚫 CURRENT BURN BANS
The following counties are under strictly enforced burn bans. No outdoor burning of any kind is permitted:
Alcorn, Hinds, Benton, Rankin, Marshall, & Tishomingo

Shoutout to two of our own for successfully completing their EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) course last week through NEMCC!

They put in countless hours and sacrificed multiple weekends to make this happen—and it shows. Their dedication and hard work have paid off, and this accomplishment will be a huge asset to both our department and the community we serve.

Strong to severe storms are expected to impact Prentiss County later today. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed our area under an Enhanced Risk (3/5) for severe weather.

A fast-moving line of storms is expected between 6 PM and 9 PM. The main threat is damaging winds, but quick spin-up tornadoes could occur with little to no warning, and some could be strong (EF2+). Large hail up to golf ball size is also possible.

Outside of storms, wind gusts over 40 mph are expected throughout the day.

Please stay weather aware and make sure you have a way to receive severe weather alerts, such as a weather radio or text alerts.

As always, our shelters will be open and our personnel will be available to respond.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us this year! The majority of our annual operating budget comes from fundraising and we wouldn’t be able to serve our community without this support. We have big plans for the Fourth of July and can’t wait to see everyone again!

We also want to thank all our dedicated members who were here for multiple days and took time off from their jobs to support our efforts. Our members get no financial compensation and do it purely out of the goodness of their hearts and their drive to serve their communities!
