OWSLEY COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE

September is here, and that means we are officially getting closer to the 2026 General Election! 🗳️
Our office is busy behind the scenes preparing for November getting ballots and equipment ready, organizing poll workers, preparing for absentee and early voting, and making sure everything is in place for a smooth and secure election.
📍 IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:
• September 19(Saturday)- Online Mail-In Absentee Ballot Request Portal Opens
• October 5-Last Day to Register to Vote for the General Election
• October 20- Online Mail-In Absentee Ballot Request Portal Closes
• October 21-23 & October 26-28 - Excused In-Person Absentee Voting
• October 29-31- No-Excuse Early Voting
• November 3 -🇺🇸 GENERAL ELECTION DAY 🇺🇸

📍 IMPORTANT - CHECK YOUR ADDRESS BEFORE OCTOBER 5!

If you have moved or changed your address, please make sure your voter registration is updated before the October 5 registration deadline. This includes moving to a different address within Owsley County.
If you have recently changed your name, you should also update your voter registration information.
Now is a great time to check your registration and make sure your name and address are correct before the registration books close.
You can check or update your voter registration through Kentucky’s GoVoteKY voter portal or contact our office and we will be happy to assist you.
We’ll be sharing more information throughout September and October regarding voting locations, hours, absentee voting, early voting, Election Day, and other important reminders.

The 2026 General Election is November 3, 2026. The deadline to register to vote in the 2026 General Election is October 5, 2026 no later than 4:00 p.m. local time.

Four new license plates are available to Kentucky vehicle owners beginning this month. The Kentucky Professional Fire Fighters plate will require a completed application.
Visit https://shorturl.at/NLFKf to view all available license plates.
We were just able to order these plates today. If you wish to switch to one of these please contact our office at (606) 593-5735 to verify we have received them.

Today, we pause to remember the innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the brave first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who showed extraordinary courage in the face of tragedy.
We remember the families whose lives were forever changed, the heroes who ran toward danger to help others, and the unity and strength our nation showed in the days that followed.
May we always remember those we lost, honor those who served, and never take for granted the freedoms and blessings we share as Americans.

📢 IMPORTANT GENERAL ELECTION INFORMATION

A Kentucky Constitutional Amendment will appear on the ballot in the November 3, 2026 General Election.

We encourage voters to read and familiarize themselves with the proposed amendment before Election Day. It is important that every voter has the opportunity to review the information ahead of time and make their own informed decision when casting their ballot.

Please remember that the County Clerk, Clerk’s Office staff, and election poll workers cannot interpret the amendment, explain what it means, or advise a voter how to vote on the amendment. Voters are encouraged to review the proposed amendment and any available official information prior to voting.

The Owsley County Clerk’s Office will continue sharing important election information, dates, deadlines, and reminders in the coming weeks.

📢REMINDER for Owsley County Taxpayers

⏰ The Delinquent Tax Sale is COMING, happening Thursday, October 15th at 10:00 AM on the 1st Floor of the Courthouse in the Clerk's Office.

‼️ If you have a delinquent tax bill, it must be PAID IN FULL or a payment agreement signed with the Owsley County Attorney before the sale date to avoid your property being listed in the tax sale!

📢 Do you have an acceptable Kentucky photo ID to vote?

Recent changes to Kentucky law, which took effect in July, mean that some previously accepted forms of identification are no longer valid. Now is the perfect time to make sure you have an acceptable photo ID.

Acceptable photo IDs include:
✅ Kentucky Driver's License
✅ Kentucky State ID Card
✅ U.S. Passport
✅ U.S. Military ID
✅ Government-Issued Photo ID
✅ Photo ID issued by a U.S. College or University

Need to get a Kentucky ID? Be sure to take the following to a Regional Drivers Licensing Office:

📄 1 Original Proof of Identity, such as:
• Certified Birth Certificate
• Resident/Citizenship Documents

📄 1 Proof of Social Security Number, such as:
• Social Security Card
• W-2 Wage and Tax Statement
• Paycheck Stub or Statement

📄 2 Proofs of Kentucky Residency, such as:

• Utility Bill

• Telephone Bill

• Pay Stub or Pay Slip

Having the proper documentation on hand will help make your voting experience as smooth and efficient as possible.
