🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Red Valley Rescue Squad – Squad 9! 🇺🇸

This weekend we celebrate the freedoms we cherish, the courage of those who fought to secure them, and the strength of the communities we are proud to serve.

As you gather with family and friends to enjoy cookouts, parades, and fireworks, we encourage everyone to celebrate safely:
🎆 Leave fireworks to the professionals when possible.
🌡️ Hydrate more than usual and limit your time outdoors in the excessive heat.
🚗 Never drive impaired.
☎️ And remember—if an emergency happens, don’t hesitate to call 911.

While you’re making memories this Fourth of July, our volunteers are standing by, ready to answer the call—day or night.

🚨 BLACK ICE ALERT – FRANKLIN COUNTY 🚨

Hurrah! A lot of today’s snow melted.
⚠️ The bad news? All that runoff and slush will refreeze once the sun goes down — and that means black ice.

What is black ice?
Black ice is a thin, nearly invisible layer of ice that forms when wet roads freeze. It often looks like normal pavement, but it’s extremely slippery and can cause vehicles to lose control in seconds.

Where does black ice form first?
• Bridges & overpasses
• Shaded areas
• Curves and hills
• Roads that look “just wet”

How to stay safe tonight:
🚗 Slow down and increase following distance
🛑 Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
🌉 Use extra caution on bridges and overpasses
🏠 If you don’t have to travel, stay home

Winter weather is impacting our area, and we ask everyone to remain cautious and look out for one another. A little preparation — and a lot of community care — can go a long way.

Here’s how you can help keep Franklin County safe:
❄️ Stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary — conditions may be hazardous.
👵 Check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family to ensure they are safe and warm.
🔦 Prepare for possible power outages with flashlights, batteries, and blankets.
🥫 Have emergency supplies ready, including water, food, medications, and a charged phone.
🔥 Heat safely — use space heaters properly and never use grills or generators indoors. Be alert for carbon monoxide dangers.
