Our teachers are LETRS trained and use high-quality, evidence-based curricular materials to support our structured literacy programs. Resources such as UFLI and the newly developed Word Origins help provide students with explicit, systematic literacy instruction designed to build strong reading and language skills.

Meghan McGinley joins us as a 5th grade teacher this school year! 🌟

She brings experience teaching 5th and 6th grade physical education, as well as 1st grade. She recently moved to Ames from Bozeman, Montana, with her fiancé, who is a football coach at Iowa State University.

Outside of school, Meghan loves spending time at the lake, hiking, and enjoying just about anything outdoors. She is excited to be part of the United team and is looking forward to a great school year!

Meet Genesis Rodriguez, who has joined us this year as a 2nd grade teacher! 🍎

Genesis recently graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a mathematics endorsement, and a minor in Learning Technologies. She completed her student teaching in both 2nd- and 5th-grade classrooms in the Ames Community School District and also brings experience as an academic mentor.

Outside of school, Genesis enjoys watching movies, spending time with friends and family, thrifting, and playing pickleball. She is the oldest of five children and has a silly dog named Dot. She also spent several years working as a barista, so she knows her way around a great cup of coffee! ☕️

We’re thrilled to have Genesis as part of our team and look forward to all she will bring to her students this school year! ✨

Meet Makayla Spaid, a special education resource teacher and a new member of our team! 👋

Makayla is beginning her first year as a teacher after graduating from Iowa State University in May. During college, she gained valuable experience working as both a paraprofessional and substitute teacher.

Outside of school, Makayla enjoys going to the gym, baking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones at football games. She also loves spending time with her two-year-old mini poodle, Paisley.

Makayla is excited to be part of our school community and is looking forward to a great year. Please join us in welcoming her!

➡️ Monday, August 24: First day for K through 6th grade, with a 2-hour early dismissal

➡️ Tuesday, August 25: 2-hour early dismissal

➡️ Thursday, August 27: Preschool Pop-In Day

➡️ Friday, August 28: First day of preschool
