On Sept. 4th, Parkway School 2nd graders celebrated the end of their Fairy Tales and Tall Tales unit with a larger-than-life pancake breakfast! 🥞

Since Paul Bunyan was famous for his colossal appetite and enormous pancakes, it was the perfect way to wrap up their learning. 2nd graders had a flap-jacking good time! 😄🥞

It was a deliciously BIG way to celebrate some BIG stories!

WCS Transportation Driver of the Month – August 💙🚌
Lisa Harmon | Bus 35
Valle Crucis School

The bus route we call the Beech Mountain Route is one of the longest routes in Watauga County.
Bus 35 driver Lisa Harmon leaves Valle Crucis around 6:00 a.m. each morning to begin picking up students, and her afternoon route typically ends around 6:15 p.m. when she returns to Valle Crucis.

The first day of school is always a long one for our drivers, but this year, Lisa’s first day beat all records!

Around 6:15 p.m., the WCS Transportation Department received a call from Lisa letting them know that she had dropped off all of her students and was heading back to Valle Crucis when she was stopped by an accident on Beech Mountain Parkway. They told her to keep them updated.
A little after 7 p.m., Lisa texted to say she thought she would be moving soon. They assumed the delay would be over shortly.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. At 10:08 p.m., Lisa sent another text: “Finally moving!”
Lisa did not get to park her bus until after 10:30 p.m.
WOW—what a day!

Through the entire four-hour-plus delay, Lisa handled the situation with professionalism and never showed her frustration. She patiently waited, and kept the Transportation Department informed.

“Lisa is our Driver of the Month for August. Lisa is an excellent driver, and we appreciate all she does for WCS students every day. Even when things don’t run as planned, she takes it in stride
and gets the job done.”
— Janet Tanner, WCS Transportation Manager

Congratulations, Lisa Harmon, and thank you for your dedication, patience, and professionalism!

We are proud to have you on the WCS Transportation team and as part of our WCS family!
Way to go, Lisa! 👏
