Boone County Alert:

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING
* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Southwest into portions of central Iowa.

* WHEN...From this afternoon through Friday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Storms are expected to increase in coverage this afternoon into tonight and will be able to produce high rainfall rates in a short period of time as they repeat over the same areas.
While soils have been dry recently, the high rates may exceed the soil's ability to absorb the rainfall in the short period of time. This may lead to flash flooding. This may be especially true in portions of Adair, Greene, and Taylor
Counties, which have received rainfall in the past few days. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with isolated higher amounts are expected by sunrise Friday.

For the latest stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water.

Hey folks, mark your calendars for a great dinner for a great cause!

The Stratford firefighters grill up a serious steak sandwich but this fundraiser hits a little different and much closer to home. This fundraiser is to support a family that sacrifices not just to protect Stratford but also right here in Boone.

Tanner has served as a part-time Firefighter/EMT with the Boone Fire Department since 2018 having answered hundreds of calls for help right here in Boone. Like any firefighter, it can't be done without a strong family at home.

It's time to show the Stratford Fire Department and the Jensen's just how grateful we are! Mark your calendars and let's see if we can clean them out and send them home early!

As always, thank you for your support!

Last year, Boone County public safety agencies had the honor of sending a care package to a young boy from South Dakota who loved lights, sirens, emergency vehicles, and public safety patches.

Several local agencies came together to send patches and other items, and the Boone County Emergency Management Commission named him an Honorary Member of the Boone County Public Safety family.

Yesterday, we were saddened to learn that he has passed away.

Though he lived several hours from Boone County, his story touched many of us here. We are grateful that we were able to play a small part in bringing him joy and letting him know that he was supported by the public safety community.

To his family: please know that Boone County is thinking of you. He will always be remembered as an honorary member of our public safety family.

Rest easy, little brother. We’ll take it from here.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. These storms may cause serious injury and significant property damage.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 300 AM CDT for central, southwestern and west central Iowa.

⚠️ Severe Weather Briefing — Boone County ⚠️
Friday, May 15 through Monday, May 18

Boone County and much of Iowa are expected to be in an active severe weather pattern through the weekend and into Monday. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are possible, and some storms may become severe.

Primary concerns through this period include:
• Damaging wind gusts
• Large hail
• Heavy rainfall and localized flooding
• Isolated tornado potential

Timing Overview:

Friday Evening into Early Saturday Morning:
Severe storms are possible this evening and overnight. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary concerns, with heavy rain and a brief tornado or two also possible.

Saturday Afternoon into Sunday Morning:
Another round of storms may move across Iowa. Damaging winds appear to be the main concern, but hail, heavy rain, and a tornado or two remain possible.

Sunday Evening and Overnight:
Additional severe weather is possible, with the higher threat currently focused across northwest Iowa. Boone County residents should continue to monitor the forecast for changes.

Monday Afternoon and Evening:
Monday currently has the potential for more widespread severe weather across Iowa. All severe hazards may be possible, including tornadoes.

With graduation season here, many people will be attending ceremonies, parties, camping trips, sporting events, and other outdoor activities. Please take time now to review your plans and know where you would go if a warning is issued.

Have multiple ways to receive warnings, such as:

✅ Wireless Emergency Alerts on your cell phone
✅ NOAA Weather Radio
✅ Local TV and radio stations
✅ Trusted weather apps
✅ Boone County Alert Iowa notifications
✅ National Weather Service updates

Do not rely on outdoor warning sirens as your only alert method, especially indoors or overnight.

Free severe weather notifications are available for Boone County through Alert Iowa.

📱 Text BooneIA to 672-83
or sign up online at:

Now is also a good time to identify your safe place. A sturdy building is best, preferably a basement or an interior room on the lowest level, away from windows.

Never drive through flooded roads — Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Stay weather aware, have a plan, and be ready to take action if warnings are issued.
