We’re taking over the Appalachian Theatre this weekend 🌎 Join us this Saturday, April 25 at 1:00 p.m. for the third annual Boone Earth Film Fest!

Oftentimes, it feels like all climate change–related news and stories are negative. This Earth Week, we want to leave you feeling empowered by sharing stories of people, not unlike members of our Boone community, who are fighting for what’s right and highlighting the good that has come from the climate change movement.

This FREE film fest is open to all who would like to attend! For more information, visit https://www.apptheatre.org/events-and-tickets

This Earth Day, we wanted to highlight our event last Friday! Earth Third Friday was extra special this year, as we got to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the Rivers House Trails 👏 Located at 150 Clayhouse Drive, the Rivers House Trails help bring FREE outdoor recreation to Downtown Boone!

If you swipe through the pictures, you can see a group photo with just a few of the people involved in completing this project. Between funding partners, staff time from multiple organizations, and support from many boards and commissions, the Rivers House Trails truly are a community project 💙 Better yet, the Rivers House Trails will eventually become the Southern Terminus of the Northern Peaks State Trail, and trail that will connect Boone to Jefferson, creating an even larger community!

During Earth Third Friday, we had many non-profit and community organizations tabling at the new parking lot at the Rivers House. From river advocates to mountain conservancies, and even invasive species educators, we had them all here right in the middle of Downtown Boone! Our list of “thank you’s” will exceed the character limits of our social media platforms, so from the bottom of our hearts we want to offer a big THANK YOU to every one of our community partners and friends which made this Earth Third Friday magical ✨

Mark your calendars ✅ Come join us this Friday, April 24th, and celebrate a belated Earth Day in style with the Illumination Entertainment film, The Lorax 🌳

Over the past year, the Town of Boone has launched the Town of Boone Presents series, a series featuring FREE, family-friendly films for our community. And what better movie to highlight during Earth Week than The Lorax?!

Did you know the Town of Boone has been recognized as a Tree City USA since 1994? We take that designation seriously. Everywhere you go in Boone, you’ll see trees, from pines and maples to oaks and birches, and everything in between. Keeping Boone green year-round is something we truly value, which makes The Lorax the perfect choice for our spring installment of Town of Boone Presents.

We usually provide a fun snack at our movie showings, but this time, we’re doing something even better… plantable sunflower seeds! While we’d love to hand out tree seeds, you can probably find plenty of those on your own, with all the pine cones, acorns, and other seeds scattered throughout our yards year-round 😉

So make sure you come on down to the Appalachian Theatre and enjoy The Lorax with us!

Boone Clean Up Day was a success!! It feels like in recent years, every time we planned a clean up day the weather was NOT on our side 😅 However, this year we were blessed with absolutely amazing weather AND amazing volunteers! We’ll be sharing some more photos later on this month, but we wanted to make sure we said THANK YOU to each and every one of our community members (including our furry friends) who showed up and helped keep Boone clean!

April is Fair Housing Month, and the Town of Boone Human Relations Commission invites you to be part of the conversation 🏡

Join us on Sunday, April 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center (252 Poplar Grove Road) for Boone’s first Fair Housing Summit. This free, community focused event is designed to inform, connect, and empower residents.

Hear from Mayor Dalton George and learn about topics that directly impact our community, including Boone’s minimum housing codes, North Carolina tenant rights, and federal, state, and local nondiscrimination laws. Additional discussions will cover service and emotional support animal protections, resources for domestic violence survivors, and updates on affordable housing initiatives in Boone.

Members of the Human Relations Commission and Town of Boone staff will be available throughout the event to answer questions and provide guidance! Admission is free, and lunch will be provided at no cost by Wildwood Community Market (yum 😋)!

We hope you will join us for an afternoon of learning, dialogue, and community engagement.

⚠️ Burn Ban in Effect for the Town of Boone ⚠️

Due to current fire conditions, the North Carolina Forest Service issued a burn ban for Watauga County beginning March 28. In coordination with the Watauga County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Town of Boone has issued a local burn ban effective April 15 at 5:00 PM.

All open burning is prohibited, including the burning of leaves, branches, and other plant material, as well as recreational or campfires. This applies regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The Town of Boone’s burn ban will remain in effect until the North Carolina Forest Service lifts its statewide restriction.

For additional information, please contact the Town of Boone Fire Department at (828) 268-6180. Please help keep our community safe by complying with this order. Join us this Friday, April 17th, at 5:00 p.m. and help us celebrate Earth Third Friday 🌎✨

We’re bringing the same community-driven energy you’ve come to love with local vendors, hands-on activities, and a focus on sustainability, just with a fresh setting this month! We will be hosting Earth Third Friday at the Rivers House, located at 150 Clay House Drive. Kick things off early with a special ribbon cutting before the event begins for the Rivers House Trails, set to take place at 3:00 p.m. (with the ribbon cutting itself happening at 3:30 p.m.). What this means for you is that our community celebration is EXTENDED this year, and we cannot WAIT!

From past Earth Third Fridays, you know the vibe: connection, conservation, and a chance to enjoy Boone while giving back to it. This Friday, we'll continue that tradition, with even more to explore in a new space. Make sure you also head over to Downtown Boone as well, and see what all of our local businesses have to offer for this very special Earth Third Friday event.

Parking is very limited at the Rivers House, so we encourage y'all to park either at the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center (252 Poplar Grove Road) or in a space in Downtown Boone.

For more information, please contact Town Hall at (828) 268-200.
