5/10/26 - BGFD responded to a pick-up truck vs a dirt bike near 600 West & Lake Shore Drive around 1pm. An adult male suffered a severe leg injury which required Air Medical transport from St. Anthony’s Crown Point to a trauma center in Illinois.

No additional information is available. PCSP is handling the accident.

*Squad 1356 picking up personnel from the hospital with LifeStar AirMedical preparing to transport.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Porter County Iron and Metal for providing us with a vacant residence on their property to train with over the last few months! These opportunities are few and far between in the volunteer fire service. After completing all state permits & inspections and ensuring safety was of the utmost, we invited several south county fire departments to train with us. All this training days allowed our firefighters grow individually and AS ONE.

Thank you to 1-800-BoardUp NW Indiana for donating your teams time to remove the roof shingles and Greenline Excavating for donating your time with your heavy machinery to ensure the demolition went smoothly!

A temporary road closure is in place on 600 West between 500 S and 600 S until approximately 2p while firefighters from several local departments train. Thank you for staying clear of the area and allowing us to train safely.

4/20/26 - BG Deputy Chief 1302 and Tankers 1341 & 1342 responded this afternoon to assist LOFS Fire and several Porter & Lake County fire departments with a 3-Alarm Condo Fire.

No injuries were reported. Any questions can be directed to LOFS Fire.

4/20/26 - BGFD responded to a reported barn fire at 2am this morning in the 400 Block of 350 West. Additional to an Auto-Aid Alarm, a Tanker Plan was requested due to it being fully engulfed at time of dispatch. No injuries were reported and it appears to be accidental in nature.
