The City of Bonners Ferry Electrical Dept. would like to remind everyone to check your service lines for tree branches and other obstructions located on your property as we move into fall and winter. Winter usually brings snow, ice and wind which causes problems for overhead utilities. If you find a potential service line issue on your property, you can contact a licensed electrician or a professional tree trimming service. Stay safe!

UPDATE: Repeat water samples have been taken and delivered to the lab in Spokane for testing. The results for the repeat samples should be sent to the water department by noon tomorrow at which time, an update will be posted on the city of Bonners Ferry page. Please be sure to read the boil alert that is posted on our page and follow the guidelines during this time. Thank you all for your patience and understanding with this matter.

BOIL ALERT in effect for customers of City of Bonners Ferry water system.

The City of Bonners Ferry water department was notified of an E. coli bacteria positive drinking water sample collected on August 3rd, 2026 by water department staff. The City of Bonners Ferry water department is working with and under the guidance of Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and has chosen to issue a precautionary voluntary boil advisory for its drinking water customers on today’s date of August 5th, 2026.

Repeat drinking water samples are required and have been collected. The results of which will determine if the E.coli positive sample was the result of local contamination at the sample site or if more widespread contamination has occurred. Bonners Ferry water department should have these results by mid-day august 6th and will provide an update to the public Via Facebook. The site of contamination is Bonners Ferry City Hall.
