BSU does not have a good record in communicating with its ratepayers. It withholds information from members, even candidates for the board. It will supply some information in print but not in electronic form like the member list. As a result of this in**ed, close to the vest, attitude BSU has been prone to major mistakes. One mistake is insufficient water pressure to support fire hydrants in much of central Bonita. This puts us all in danger. A second is not providing honest election for the board of directors. BSU is being sued for election fraud. https://www.naplesnews.com/story/news/local/communities/the-banner/2018/11/27/losing-candidates-sue-bonita-springs-utilities-claiming-election-fraud/2128741002/ A third mistake is the overbuilding of plant and facilities for potable water, while neglecting to build storage facilities and piping for reclaimed water. Part of this is the sweetheart deal to supply for-profit RCS with reclaimed water, our water, at $.34 per thousand gallons. Now mind you we have already paid $7.36 for that water. On this, I am sorry to say, BSU directors have violated the trust of the members. BSU did not get approval from the county or its members/ratepayers for the RCS deal. Restructuring it will enable BSU to reach the goal of 150 gallons of potable water per person per day demanded by the South Florida Water Management District and cut our irrigation bills by 2/3. BSU could start by laying pipes for reclaimed water on Old 41 when the streets are dug up for the downtown restoration project. see details on http://www.edandjudeforbsu.org The city of Naples, which runs its own water utility has recently embarked on a program to pipe reclaimed water to customers throughout its service area. It is high time for BSU to do the same. http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2014/jan/23/brent-batten-changes-in-the-pipeline-for-city/ What Batten does not make fully clear in the article is that irrigation is typically 50% of peoples water use. Irrigation water will cost 25-33% of the cost of potable water. BSU is a publicly regulated monopoly masquerading as a private company. To get better service at lower cost this farce must stop!
