On 07/30/2026 at approximately 1:30PM an agency requested the assistance of Fannin County Sheriff’s Office investigators to locate an individual that had fled from a probation office and had an active warrant for his arrest. The individual was identified as Jay Cole Davidson (43-year-old, white, male). As investigators approached Davidson’s residence on Liberty St in Bonham he ran into a structure on the property and barricaded himself in with an additional adult female. Fannin County Sheriff’s Office deployed our Special Response Team to respond due to Davidson’s history of violence, known fi****ms in the residence and a pattern of evading and assault. The property was quickly contained and the residences on either side were unoccupied, creating a quick and secure perimeter that kept the public safe.

Crisis negotiators attempted to reason with Davidson with no success. Ultimately the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team took Davidson and Nyssa Matchen (36-year-old, white, female) into custody after deploying CS Gas, with the assistance of a State Trooper, into the structure the suspects barricaded within. After the chemical agent was deployed the two individuals surrendered and were taken into custody by Fannin County Deputies.

While this situation could have been resolved much faster, rather than a multi-hour long standoff, we chose the safest and most effective route to protect the public, law enforcement and the suspects themselves. This standoff was resolved with no injuries (beyond the temporary effects of CS Gas), no shots fired and two suspects off the streets.

We would like to especially thank the Troopers and Investigators with Texas DPS, Bonham Police Dept, Bonham Fire/EMS, Lamar County Emergency Management (Drone Support) and Paris Police Dept (Drone Support) for their assistance in this operation.

While law enforcement operations and barricaded suspects always present some degree of danger, this one was rapidly contained to a small area and the threat to anyone beyond law enforcement was quickly taken to minimal levels. I cannot express how proud I am of the job that Fannin County Deputies do serving our community day in a day out, regardless of the circumstances.

Davidson was arrested for an outstanding warrant on Evading Arrest w/Vehicle/Deadly Weapon and his bond on a previous case was also revoked. He is being held without bond at the Fannin County Jail.

Matchen was arrested for outstanding warrants on Criminal Trespass and Failure to Appear and a new charge of Resisting Arrest. She is yet to be have a bond set.

We expect additional charges to follow.

Charges and arrests are not a presumption of guilt and all suspects will get their day in court.

Sheriff Cody Shook

The pursuit ended on Cunningham St in Bonham and the suspect fled on foot. He was ultimately taken into custody in a neighborhood in Bonham. There is no danger to the public and the suspect was captured on Agnew Street after a thorough search. The Sheriff’s Office assisted and provided backup but was not the primary agency on this event. On 07/24/2026 at the request of Honey Grove Police Department, Sheriff Shook activated the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team. Honey Grove Police obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 500 block of 1st St in Honey Grove. The warrant was associated with an ongoing narcotics investigation. The suspect(s) were known and had a history of violence, fleeing and possession of fi****ms. Due to the known risks and hazards the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team responded to serve the warrant and secure the property and suspects alongside Honey Grove Police and Texas DPS Highway Patrol.

The warrant was executed quickly, successfully and safely with no danger to the public or the neighboring residents. All individuals in the residence were rapidly detained and the target location was secured without incident.

Honey Grove Police Chief Leigh Dixon will have a full statement out later today. We thank Honey Grove Police and the State Troopers with DPS for their assistance. We always welcome coordinated efforts to make our county and towns a safer place for residents and visitors. We are here to serve everyone in this county and stand ready to assist any of our local agencies.
