Is that…a moving stick? 😳😲

Have you ever seen what looks like a moving stick out in the wild and wondered, “What is that?” 🤔❓

Well, we can tell you, it is more than likely a Phasmid, also known as a Walking Stick! 🚶‍♂️🪵

-These insects are great at camouflage due to their stick-like appearance that allows them to disguise themselves with ease from predators. ✅💁‍♂️

-They can also lose one of their legs and regenerate it back after they molt their skin. How’s that for an interesting fact? 😄❗️

-Although this particular walking stick was out during the day, these insects mostly stay stealthily still during the daytime hours and become active during night when they feed on leaves and shrubs. 🌙⭐️

-Overall, these walking sticks play a big role in our ecosystem at the park as they help to prune plant canopies to aid new growth and help to serve as a food source for other animals. (Even though they are great tricksters and can camouflage really well!) 🤲🌳

If you are interested in trying to spot one of these elusive, but interesting creatures, come on out to the park to go on a mission for the unique Walking Stick! 🤠🧐

The park is under a burn ban as of 8/11/26. ❌🔥

-This means no wood burning fires. 🚫🪵

-Charcoal is permitted in standing grills ONLY and Propane is permitted for cooking in low-risk areas.

Please be fire safe during this time. We will update everyone when the burn ban has been lifted. 😁✅

It may be boiling, but the fish are still biting! 🎣✅

This 7Ib Catfish was caught by our regular fisherman, Hunter, joined by his grandfather this morning! It was his biggest catfish catch to date!!! 🤠🙌

Please congratulate Hunter on another great catch and make sure to come and see us out here at the park to catch your own whopper of a fish! 🐟💪

(Please also ask our Park Rangers about our Tackle Loaner Program. You can borrow rods from us for free without any charge. You just have to have an adult present. Make sure to bring your own bait though!) 🪱✅

✅ The original flyer listed the incorrect day for the event. Boo in the Park will occur on Friday, October 30th, from 6pm-9pm. ✅

Only one site remains to be claimed, which is Tent Camping ONLY, Site 16. 🏕️

Bonham State Park is gearing up for our Annual Boo in the Park Event on October 30th! 🎃🕷️

With that being said, we have some campsites available for the event:

-RV/Tent Camping Sites: 8 and 12.

-Tent Camping ONLY Sites: 15, 16, 18, and 19.

In exchange for decorating your site and handing out candy for the event, all fees for the campsite are waived from October 25th-November 1st. 🏕️✅
