⛈️ Storm damage? Take your time before signing anything.

Following last night’s severe weather, residents are already reporting unsolicited messages offering roofing services and contractors driving through local neighborhoods.

While many contractors are reputable, major storms can also attract dishonest or unqualified operators hoping homeowners will make quick decisions. An out-of-state license plate alone does not mean someone is a scammer—but it is a good reminder to carefully verify anyone you hire.

Before agreeing to repairs:

✅ Contact your insurance agent or company first.
✅ Verify the contractor’s identity, registration, insurance, local address, and references.
✅ Get a detailed written estimate and read every document before signing.
✅ Don’t allow anyone to pressure you into making an immediate decision.
✅ Avoid paying the full cost upfront.
✅ Be cautious of anyone promising to “handle everything” with your insurance company or increase your settlement.

In Iowa, a contractor may inspect damage, prepare a repair estimate, recommend that you file a claim, and answer an insurance adjuster’s questions about the proposed work. However, unless that contractor also holds an Iowa public adjuster’s license, they cannot negotiate, advocate, prepare, or adjust your insurance claim on your behalf.

We are so excited for On the Rise Breakfast Cafe! They began their new adventure yesterday as a breakfast cafe. You can now go into the cafe and get your favorite coffees, baked goods, lunch items, and more! We can't wait to see what wonderful things will be happening!

🔥 If you’ve noticed the Bondurant Area Chamber has a little extra energy lately, there’s a very good reason—and her name is Katie!

Katie is absolutely amazing and is taking our organization to new heights. She genuinely cares about our members, our businesses, and the entire Bondurant community. She brings enthusiasm, creativity, personality, and probably enough energy to power half the city. Simply put, she is the epitome of **Business Connecting**.

The Board has loved working alongside Katie and watching her blossom into the Executive Director role. She is on fire for Bondurant, the biggest cheerleader for our business community, and always ready to turn a new idea into action.
