Here's a question I recently was asked. "Why should I believe changing the person will change anything?"
Honestly? That’s a fair question.
One State Senator can’t fix everything. I’m not going to make that promise knowing that the power of one is often limited.
But I can promise I’ll be a different person in the room. I will be a different voice, a different presence.
I’m a taxpayer, a mom, a small business and association advocate, a REALTOR®, a landlord, and a local Board of Education member. I experience the same rising insurance costs, property taxes, grocery bills, and utility bills that families across our district experience. I am just like every other District 4 member.
The thing to note about me, though, is that I ask a lot of questions.
Before we spend another dollar, create another program, or add another mandate, I want to know:
What problem are we solving?
What does success look like?
How will we measure it?
And what happens if it doesn’t work?
Take housing, for example. We can't simply mandate affordability and expect the math to disappear. If it costs $500 per square foot to build and we expect someone to sell it for $150, somebody has to absorb that difference.
And we need to ask: affordable for whom?
A young person carrying student debt? A working family trying to buy their first home? Or a senior on a fixed income whose home is now worth $1 million but whose income certainly isn't?
These are the real conversations I believe we need to have.
I'm not running to be another party vote.
I'm running to represent Andover, Bolton, Glastonbury, and Manchester.
Will I single-handedly change Hartford?
No.
But I will ask the questions.
I will demand the numbers.
I will measure the outcomes.
I will listen to the people I represent.
And when something doesn't make sense, I will say so.
I'm tired of the status quo, too. I’m ready to be a different person in the room.
