Town of Bolivia Public Notice
The Town of Bolivia Board of Aldermen will hold Public Hearings on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 7:00 PM at:
Bolivia Fire Department, 3848 Business 17 E, Bolivia, NC 28422 to consider the following:
1. Proposed text amendments to the Town’s Zoning Ordinance regarding private streets in Article IV, Section B, and updates to the Planned Unit Development (PUD) process.
2. A request for Zoning Map Amendment for Parcel # 14000039 from existing A/F (Agricultural Forestry) and C-3 (Commercial 3) to a PUD (Planned Unit Development).

Brunswick County has been notified by N.C. Forest Service officials this week that the County Commissioners’ request for a state burn ban has been denied. Read full media release: https://ow.ly/3gBE50Zrz11

Because of this denial, state-issued permits for burning natural vegetation more than 100 feet from an occupied dwelling (which includes open burning for land clearing) may continue as long as state laws concerning burning and air quality are followed.

These types of permits are only issued by the N.C. Forest Service, which is a division of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Brunswick County does not have the authority to restrict, veto, or deny these state-issued burning permits or open burning related to land clearing.

Under North Carolina law, counties and municipalities can only regulate open burning activities within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling within their respective jurisdictions. For , this is limited to the unincorporated areas only. Brunswick County's local burn ban issued on June 8 remains in effect.

As of July 10, 2026, Brunswick County has moved to a Stage 3 Water Shortage Warning MANDATORY Restrictions until further notice due to worsening drought conditions. All automated outdoor irrigation is prohibited.

🔥7/11/26 -- FIRE INFORMATION UPDATE: QUARRY ROAD FIRE🔥
SHALLOTTE (BRUNSWICK COUNTY)

The Quarry Road Fire ignited Friday, July 10 in Shallotte.

The N.C. Forest Service and Tri-Beach Fire Department are in unified command of the Quarry Road Fire. Multiple personnel and equipment resources are engaged. N.C. Forest Service aircraft are providing aerial support for wildland firefighters on the ground.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal along with several local fire departments and county agencies are providing incident support.

The public is reminded that firefighting engines and equipment are working and moving in the fire area. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, stay alert and avoid the area if possible.

📌Acreage and containment: Currently, the fire is 400-500 acres in size with an estimated 50% containment. Containment is estimated at this time as wildland firefighting crews remain actively engaged in suppression efforts. Percent containment represents sections of fire line that pose no escape risk without further action from firefighters.

📌Weather and Fire Behavior: Due to extreme heat, dry conditions and gusty winds, fire behavior is erratic. Firefighting personnel are addressing a spot fire that occurred this morning. Operational objectives are to get containment lines around the spot fire and to continue strengthening those lines. Spot fires occur when embers land on the unburned side of a fire line.

📌Smoke Impacts: The communities of Shallotte, St. James and Boiling Springs Lake may be impacted by smoke from the fire.

📌Wildfires are a no-drone zone. Flying a drone near or over a wildfire is ILLEGAL. Don’t do it. Firefighting aircraft that respond to wildfires fly low in support of ground personnel. Drones can pose a serious threat to pilot and public safety. A drone that disrupts air operations also puts firefighters, residents and property at risk of loss to wildfire.

The Town of Bolivia Planning Board will not meet in April. The next Planning Board meeting is scheduled for May 19, 2026, depending on whether they are issues to be considered.

The Board of Aldermen will meet on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 7 PM at the Town Hall at 105 Danford Road, Bolivia, NC 28422.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

The town of Bolivia Board Of Alderman will hold Public hearings on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 7 PM at Bolivia Fire department 3848 Business 17 E Bolivia NC 28422 to consider the following :
1. Amending the zoning ordinance to alter Planning Board procedure and composition.
2. Amending the Flood Damage Prevention ordinance to establish the Board Of Alderman as the appeals board.

The March Board of Aldermen meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2026 at 7PM to be held at the Bolivia Fire Department at 3848 Business 17E in Bolivia. The public is welcome to attend.
