Success Story: Matheus Fujii

Matheus Fujii enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Program after becoming unemployed and seeking a career in the electrical field.

Through the WIOA Youth Program, Matheus received funding to attend the Electrical I program at Brunswick Community College. WIOA also provided supportive services to help him participate in training, including mileage reimbursement, books, work boots, and an electrician starter kit containing essential tools for the trade.

While enrolled in Electrical I, Matheus participated in a Work Experience (WEX) opportunity as an Electrician Apprentice, allowing him to apply classroom instruction in a real-world work environment. He successfully completed both the training program and the WEX.

Following completion of the WEX, Matheus was hired by Atlantic Coast Electrical Services LLC through an On-the-Job Training (OJT) contract. As his skills continued to develop, he applied for and received a Brunswick Community College Continuing Education Scholarship, which funded his enrollment in the Electrical II program. He successfully completed the course while continuing to gain hands-on experience with the company.

Today, Matheus is employed full-time with Atlantic Coast Electrical Services LLC and continues to build his skills and experience in the electrical trade.

This success story highlights how education, supportive services, work-based learning, scholarships, and employer partnerships can help young adults enter high-demand careers and build long-term employment opportunities in Brunswick County.

Congratulations to Matheus on his hard work and commitment to building a career in the skilled trades. We are proud to celebrate his success and grateful for the partnership of Atlantic Coast Electrical Services LLC in providing opportunities for local workforce talent.

๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™ From Goal to Graduation โ€” Congratulations, Kiki! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽ“

Three months. One goal. A future transformed.

Kiki connected with NCWorks through workforce and education services available in Brunswick County and enrolled as a GEAR student through Adult Education at Brunswick Community College with the goal of earning her high school diploma. She accomplished it! โœจ

With determination, encouragement, and access to educational and career support services, Kiki completed her program in just three months. Throughout the journey, she remained motivated, appreciative, and focused on building more opportunities for herself and her family.

Today, Kiki is celebrating this milestone while caring for her two children and already planning her next chapter. She will continue her education and pursue her Certified Nursing Assistant credential. ๐Ÿ’™

Her story is a reminder that education and workforce support can create new possibilities.

If youโ€™ve been thinking:
โœจ I want to finish school
โœจ I want to gain new skills
โœจ I want better career opportunities
โœจ I want to build a stronger future for my family

NCWorks at Brunswick Community College partners with Adult Education, Training and Career services and Employment services to help individuals connect to career guidance, training opportunities, education pathways, and employment support.

Join us in celebrating Kiki and cheering her on as she continues building her future! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘

North Carolina is rethinking workforce development โ€” and Brunswick County has a seat at the table.

In March, we joined workforce leaders from across North Carolina in Greensboro for a statewide strategy meeting focused on the future of jobs, training, apprenticeships, and employer partnerships.

Representatives from NCWorks, Workforce Development Boards, Business Services teams, and statewide workforce leaders came together with one shared goal:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Build stronger connections between employers, education, and people looking for opportunity.

The conversation focused on how we can:
โœ”๏ธ Help businesses find skilled workers
โœ”๏ธ Expand apprenticeships and hands-on training
โœ”๏ธ Create clearer career pathways
โœ”๏ธ Better connect jobseekers to local opportunities
โœ”๏ธ Work together across agencies and organizations instead of in silos

Itโ€™s exciting to see North Carolina investing in new ideas and stronger partnerships to support both employers and jobseekers โ€” and even more exciting to bring those conversations and ideas back to Brunswick County through NCWorks and Brunswick Community College.

The future of workforce development is collaboration, innovation, and creating real opportunities for people to grow, train, and succeed right here in our communities.
