The owner will also need verification of current rabies vaccination. Animals housed at the Bolivar Animal Pound generally leave in one of the following ways: Adoption, return to owner, transfer to another shelter/rescue and euthanasia. DISCLAIMER about euthanasia: It is the policy of the Bolivar Animal Pound that animals be handled with respect and sensitivity and protected from stress, fear, discomfort or pain. Euthanasia is performed by a licensed veterinarian and shall be accomplished by a method specified as acceptable by the American Veterinary Medical Association Panel on Euthanasia. While the goal is to identify a home for all animals finding their way to the Bolivar Animal Pound, it may be necessary to euthanize some animals. Such reasons include, but are not limited to medical/injury, aggressive behavioral issues, or inability to identify a new home. Critically ill or seriously injured animals may be euthanized prior to conclusion of the holding period if such action is deemed necessary to prevent additional suffering in the opinion of the division lieutenant, officer on scene and/or veterinarian. All animals housed at the animal pound more than 60 days may be humanely euthanized, unless otherwise approved by the division lieutenant or Bolivar Chief of Police. The division lieutenant will be consulted prior to euthanasia and updated on the status of the animals' adoptability. The pound will investigate options relative to keeping or euthanizing of animals and will work jointly with the local humane society in order to adopt out all animals when possible. The adoption fee for dogs is $40 if they are already spayed or neutered before coming to the pound. This includes DAPPv, Bordetella, and rabies shots. The adoption fee for cats is $20. This includes rabies and FRCP shots. If you are in need of having an animal picked up by animal control, please call non-emergency dispatch at 417-777-3911. To donate a dog or cat bed to the animal pound, you may contact the pound by calling 417-328-5896 or by emailing [email protected]. The division lieutenant is Lt. Steve Van Tassell. Email [email protected] for questions and comments directed to him.
