The Bolivar Police Department would like to recognize and thank K-9 Officer Buddy for his dedicated service to the department and the residents of Bolivar.

Buddy was certified on November 7, 2020, and faithfully served alongside his handler, Lieutenant Allen SIdes, until his retirement on July 14, 2026. Throughout his years of service, Buddy proved to be a loyal partner and a valuable member of our department, assisting Lieutenant Sides and our officers in carrying out our mission to protect and serve the community. A retirement ceremony was held for K-9 Buddy on September 4, 2026, where he "signed off" for the last time.

K-9 Buddy's service, loyalty, and dedication will always be appreciated and remembered by the men and women of the Bolivar Police Department. Thank you for your service, Buddy. You will always be a member of the BPD family! Enjoy your retirement!

Bolivar Police Department Holds Oath of Office and Promotion Ceremony

The Bolivar Police Department celebrated an important milestone on Friday, August 7, 2026, as department members, family, friends, and city officials gathered for an Oath of Office and Promotion Ceremony.

During the ceremony, Officer Braxdon Frost was officially promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, recognizing his dedication, professionalism, and continued commitment to serving the citizens of Bolivar.

The department also welcomed its newest officers as David Cooper, Ron Wilson, Jacob Martin, and Cannon Brewer each took the Oath of Office, pledging to faithfully uphold the Constitution, protect the community, and serve with integrity.

Mayor Julian McTizic had the honor of administering the oath to the newly sworn officers, marking the beginning of their service with the Bolivar Police Department.

Chief Michael Jones congratulated the honorees and encouraged them to embrace the responsibility of the badge. "This badge is more than a symbol of authority—it is a promise to serve with honor, courage, and compassion every single day. Lead with integrity, earn the trust of your community, and never forget that the greatest measure of a police officer is the difference they make in the lives of others."

In Memoriam
Bolivar Patrolman Hugh Everette Eubanks
END OF WATCH: March 17, 1975

Annually, on May 15th, law enforcement officers honor those fallen in the line of duty. On March 17, 1975, tragedy struck in our hometown when Bolivar Patrolman Hugh Everette Eubanks, age 53, was shot and killed after responding to a domestic disturbance. After making contact with two males at the residence, Patrolman Eubanks was told that there was not a problem and that no one at the residence had called police. As Patrolman Eubanks was marking himself back into service with the dispatch officer, one of the men shot him in the chest. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bolivar Community Hospital.

Patrolman Eubanks was a retired Army officer, serving over 20 years in the military(1941-1962), and had worked at Kilgore prior to joining the Bolivar Police Department in 1971. He had served the citizens of Bolivar for the 4 years prior to his death. Patrolman Eubanks left behind a wife, four children, four sisters, his mother, and one grandson.

Today, we will honor the memory and legacy of Patrolman Eubanks at the Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony in Jackson, Tennessee. We ask that you join us in remembering and honoring the fallen, and we pray that you will keep us and all first responders in your thoughts and prayers as we strive each day to keep our community safe.
