Local 3005 would like to take a moment this Memorial Day to honor and remember all of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our country, our freedoms, and our way of life.

Today, we also keep in our thoughts and prayers the families who have endured the loss of a loved one in military service. Their sacrifice and strength will never be forgotten.

Local 3005 is proud to have several active members who have honorably served our nation in various branches of the United States Military. We thank them for their continued service to both our country and our community.

Memorial Day is a time for our nation to come together — setting aside differences, opinions, and everyday challenges — to honor those who gave everything in service to others.

Today we remember, we honor, and we reflect.

Local 3005 members were out today at the intersection of Boughton Road and Weber Road for our first of three Fridays participating in our annual “Fill the Boot” campaign benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Each year, our members proudly come together for one of our largest fundraising events of the year to help support MDA and the fight to find a cure. We are honored to continue supporting such an important cause that impacts so many families across our communities.

Be on the lookout for Local 3005 members next Friday, May 29th, from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the intersection of Boughton Road and Route 53 as we continue our “Fill the Boot” campaign. If you see us out there, give us a honk and please consider donating to this great cause.

Local 3005 would like to congratulate Vice President Emeritus Dan Kerkstra on completing 20 years of dedicated service with the Bolingbrook Firefighters Association Local 3005 and the Bolingbrook Fire Department yesterday May 15, 2026.

Vice President Emeritus Kerkstra was a true labor leader for Local 3005, serving as an Executive Board member for 14 years. During his time with Local 3005, he played an instrumental role in numerous key issues, contract negotiations, and contract enforcement matters that helped strengthen and protect our membership.

Leading with humility, professionalism, and integrity, it came as no surprise when VP Emeritus Kerkstra was promoted out of the bargaining unit to the rank of Battalion Chief.

To this day, Battalion Chief Kerkstra continues to lead with a member-first attitude and remains a strong advocate for labor and the firefighters he serves — even from the other side of the table.

Congratulations, Vice President Emeritus Kerkstra, on this outstanding milestone and thank you for your years of service, leadership, and dedication to the members of Local 3005 and the Bolingbrook community.

In recognition of National Nurses Appreciation Week and this year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses,” Local 3005 was honored to provide lunch for the Emergency Room Nurses at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook today.

The members of Local 3005 would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the emergency room nurses for their unwavering dedication, compassion, professionalism, and perseverance. Your commitment to caring for others and serving our community does not go unnoticed, and we are truly thankful for everything you do each and every day.
