Propane Emergencies at Clearwater Fire Academy in Orofino, Idaho.
Firefighters are trained to cool the propane tank and coordinate an advance to shut off the gas flow. If the tanks are not cooled and the gas continues to flow and heat the tank, it can result in a devastating explosion (BLEVE). These Firefighters could be responding to a propane emergency anytime in their community. Photos and video courtesy of FST Instructor Steve.

CLEARWATER ACADEMY 2026. Orofino, Idaho. Clearwater Fire Chiefs Association, Idaho Fire Service Training, Idaho State Fire Marshal's Office, Idaho Fire Chiefs Association, Idaho Department of Lands, and Larsen Fire worked together to provide training to 224 students from 42 Fire Departments.
Classes conducted that are not pictured; Firefighter Essentials Fire Behavior and Control, Incident Safety Officer, and Structure Arson Idaho State Fire Marshal's Office.
