The office of the county assessor is primarily concerned with determining equitable values on
both real and personal property for tax purposes (§63-207, I.C.). However, the office has one other function that is detailed and time-consuming. The assessor acts as the agent of the Idaho Department of Transportation in titling and registering vehicles (§§49-401A, 49-501, I.C.)

Idaho's Property Tax Reduction (or "Circuit Breaker") program offers up to $1,500 in reductions for eligible homeowners with a 2025 income of $39,130 or less. Applicants must own a primary home, meet specific status requirements (age 65+, disabled, or widow/er), and apply between January 1 and April 15, 2026.
The Idaho 100% Service-Connected Disabled Veteran Property Tax Benefit reduces primary residence property taxes by up to $1,500 for qualified veterans. This program is not income-restricted and is available to those rated 100% service-connected disabled or paid at the 100% rate due to individual unemployability by the VA as of January 1.
Apply online through the Idaho State Tax Commission website or find the application and additional information on Ada County Assessor’s Office website. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2026

Friendly reminder… The deadline for Property Tax Reduction, Property Tax Benefit for Veterans with 100% Service-connected Disability, and Property Tax Deferral is Tuesday, April 15th. Applications must be submitted in office by 5pm, postmarked by April 15th, or emailed/faxed by 11:59 pm. Please call with questions at 208-287-7200.
