Today we’re closing out Week of Hope, and wow… our hearts are overflowing. We’re a small family nonprofit with a huge passion for loving our homeless neighbors, and seeing this community show up with us means everything.

This week we talked about monthly giving, Neighbor Kits, and the impact of our outreaches and Block Parties — all things YOU help make possible.

Today, we’re highlighting our outreaches and the heart behind showing up. We’ve been doing this work since 2018, and it’s incredible to look back and see how far we’ve come and how many neighbors we’ve met along the way.

At each outreach, we bring clothing, food, hygiene kits, and most importantly, real conversation and connection. We also host quarterly Block Parties where we share meals, give out essentials, offer free haircuts, and create a space where everyone feels welcome.

Today, we’re highlighting our Car(e) Kits and the small-but-powerful impact they make.

These kits are easy to keep in your car and even easier to hand to someone who could use a little love that day. Each one includes snacks, water, weather-appropriate items, toiletry essentials, and a conversation card meant to help someone feel seen and heard.

The Shade Project – Part 2 Brought to you by Neighbor Idaho

Shade isn’t just comfort—it’s care in action. As the Boise summer blazes on, The Shade Project returns for Part 2. This time, we’re showing up even stronger with umbrellas, sunscreen, and other essentials in hand.
We’re heading downtown to stand alongside our neighbors experiencing homelessness—offering not just relief from the sun, but dignity, compassion, and real support.

🌴The Shade Project – Brought to you by Neighbor Idaho🌴
As the Boise summer heat ramps up, the sun can be relentless—especially for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Inspired by Jonah 4:6, where God provides a plant to shade Jonah from the scorching sun, we’re stepping in with love and practical care to help do the same.
Join us Saturday, June 21st at 1 PM MST as we head downtown to serve and support our neighbors with compassion and shade. We’ll be handing out umbrellas, tents, sunscreen, and other helpful items to bring some relief from the heat. We believe in showing up for people—and sometimes that looks like offering a little bit of shade and a whole lot of kindness.

Our first Block Party of the year is happening THIS Saturday—and we still need some helping hands! 💛

We’re expecting to serve over 200 of our unhoused neighbors with free burgers, coffee, haircuts, games, and more… but we need volunteers to help make it all happen. Think food service, table hosts, greeters—easy ways to jump in and love our community well.

How We Started

The dream to start Neighbor originated from a missions trip I went to in Fresno and a visit to The Dream Center in L.A. I had never seen poverty and homelessness at that level where I grew up in Boise. Those experiences wrecked me and changed my whole perspective on life. It absolutely broke my heart to see people abandoned like that and I knew it was time to put my dream into action. In the Summer of 2018, my mother, grandmother, a friend, and I walked around areas in Boise where the homeless typically stayed and handed out water bottles on a hot summer day. No bells, no whistles, no hype. Our goal was simple: ‘It is 90+ degrees outside, here is some cold water and a smile’. Since then, I have led a team of volunteers each and every month to go down to our homeless community and hand out practical items like water, toiletries and so on. We go out with a smile, ears ready to listen and a heart ready to love. The growth of Neighbor and the relationships built with people this past year has been the most amazing thing to witness. Neighbor is my life's work and we are so excited to share this dream with you to love on our City. ⠀
