Our organization brings combat-wounded veterans and patriotic donors together so that we can help promote their recovery as they spilled their blood in the name of our nation's freedom. Our sole purpose is to raise funds for programs executed by the Idaho Department, Chief Joseph Chapter 509 & Panhandle Chapter 511 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Our goal is to help make sure their programs receive robust support so that more Purple Heart recipients and their families can be provided the necessary assistance. We represent Idaho servicemen and women who were wounded actively defending our country in times of war. Their voices must be heard and their sacrifices should be known. We work tirelessly to ensure that these patriots are cared for on their paths to recovery. National Medal of Honor Highway Ride – Updated Planning Guidance
Gents,

Barry and Ned, you have already seen Daryl's latest update. It significantly changes many of the assumptions and planning discussions we have had to date. After reviewing the document and discussing it directly with Daryl, here are the key points:

MAJOR CHANGES
β€’ There are only two official riders participating in the convoy: Daryl and Stan.
β€’ The Medal of Honor Historical Society has withdrawn from participation.
β€’ The event was becoming too large and complex, primarily due to liability concerns involving sponsors and additional riders.
β€’ The original major sponsors were General Motors (GM) and Harley-Davidson.
β€’ Daryl and Stan are now self-funding the entire ride, including fuel, lodging, meals, and travel expenses.

EVENT FORMAT
β€’ Riders will stop in each state for approximately two hours only before continuing to the next destination.
β€’ Each state is responsible for determining the event location, local speakers, invitations to elected officials and community leaders, and local logistics.
β€’ Food service is not required.
β€’ The stop only needs to provide a gathering location, seating (if desired), a podium and/or microphone system, flags, and basic ceremony support.
β€’ Any tag-along riders participate entirely at their own risk and responsibility.

IDAHO CONSIDERATIONS
Possible Idaho venue:
Veterans Memorial Park – Boise
β€’ Ample parking
β€’ Good visibility
β€’ Located directly on the US 20 / US 26 corridor
β€’ Existing patriotic setting
This would eliminate the need to conduct the Idaho event in Yellowstone National Park.

SCHEDULE CONCERNS
Wyoming to Idaho:
Current Schedule: Day 10 Casper, WY β†’ Idaho Falls, ID listed as approximately 280–300 miles.
Google Maps indicates approximately 500 miles and roughly 10 hours riding time if remaining on US 20.
Nebraska to Wyoming:
Current Schedule: Valentine, NE β†’ Casper, WY listed as approximately 290 miles.
Actual distance is closer to 320 miles.
These corrections may affect event timing and locations throughout Wyoming and Idaho.

IDAHO TIMING
Day 11:
Idaho Falls β†’ Boise
Approximately 230–250 miles
Under the current concept, riders would depart Idaho Falls in the morning, arrive in Boise during the afternoon, and continue toward Nyssa, Oregon. Therefore, the Idaho ceremony would likely take place in the afternoon.

SCOPE OF THE EVENT
This is now a much smaller and simpler event than originally envisioned.
Expected participants may include:
β€’ Daryl and Stan
β€’ Local Purple Heart members
β€’ Local veterans organizations
β€’ Invited elected officials
β€’ Community supporters

A setup for approximately 25–50 attendees should be sufficient.
Potential partners:
β€’ American Legion
β€’ Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
β€’ Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA)
β€’ Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
β€’ Other local veterans groups

IDAHO MEDAL OF HONOR HIGHWAY SIGNAGE
The remaining challenge is coordination with ITD regarding Medal of Honor Highway signage.
Recommendations:
β€’ Engage local legislators early.
β€’ Seek support from Idaho House and Senate members whose districts include the US 20 corridor.
β€’ Use political and community support to help move the project forward.

TIMELINE
The convoy is scheduled to begin on May 31, 2027, in Boston, Massachusetts.
We still have approximately one year to finalize Idaho planning and coordinate the Boise event.

CONCLUSION
This version reflects the new reality: a small ceremonial stop rather than a large sponsored convoy event, which substantially reduces Idaho's planning requirements and costs. Needs a Project Manager. Email if interested: [email protected]

Purple Heart Day Planning Date: Friday, August 7, 2025
Ned requested that members consider organizing an event to commemorate Purple Heart Day, emphasizing the importance of the organization's recognition of the occasion. He asked for suggestions to be submitted for inclusion in the May newsletter.
Proposed Activities:
Boise area option: Luncheon at Spurwing (location capacity: approximately 50 people)
Northern Idaho option: Ned suggested Dale organize an event at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Post Falls, inviting northern members to the facility for lunch. This would provide an opportunity to bring veterans out of their homes and into the community.
