Public safety and property rights don’t have to be at odds. While we appreciate the safety requirements included in Idaho House Bill 583—like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors—the bill’s current form prevents counties from identifying short-term rentals.

We want to thank the 16 Representatives and 12 Senators who voted "No," recognizing that a truly balanced approach must empower local communities to protect their residents. These legislators have consistently shown support for local control. We look forward to working with stakeholders during the interim to find a solution that upholds safety while respecting property owner autonomy.

💚 Operation Green Light for Veterans 💚

America’s counties have a long and proud history of serving our nation’s veterans — and this Veterans Day, we’re proud to continue that tradition.

From November 4–11, 2025, counties across the nation will join the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO) in lighting buildings green to honor those who have served.

Last month, Idaho coroners gathered at the Riverside Hotel for the annual ISACC Conference! The two-day event featured expert-led trainings from the Idaho State Police Forensic Team, NMS Labs, and Ada County’s Chief Deputy Coroner Brett Harding, plus joint sessions with county prosecutors.

Attendees connected with peers, shared insights, and elected new ISACC officers for 2025–2026, including President Josh Hall (Nez Perce County) and Vice President Robert Beers (Bonner County).

The Idaho State Association of County Coroners (ISACC) gathered at the Riverside Hotel, September 17–18, for their Annual Conference. The event brought together 27 elected coroners and 6 deputies for two days of education, collaboration, and connection.

🌲 Idaho county leaders headed to D.C. to advocate for full PILT funding and reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program—critical support for roads, wildfire mitigation, and rural schools in public lands counties.

In 2025, Idaho counties received nearly $43M in PILT payments. With SRS now lapsed, many counties face major budget gaps.
