This is an official page of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit (ACSO K9 Unit) in Boise, Idaho.

The Ada County Sheriff K9 Unit created this page to keep the public informed of the K9 Unit's activities and to give everyone the opportunity to reach out and communicate with K9 deputies. This page was created to provide people who live and work in our communities and others with an interest in the ACSO K9 Unit to access information about our agency and K9 unit. This page is monitored and managed

by the Community Information Unit. To learn more about the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, visit www.adasheriff.org. Our purpose is to convey important public safety information and to effectively and immediately reach Ada County residents in our efforts to solve and reduce crime and further our mission of making safer places for you to live, work and play. Deputy Koller and K9 Scout visited a local Montessori school this morning to share what they do as part of our narcotics detection team.

Students learned how Scout uses her nose to detect odors, watched her demonstrate her skills, and asked plenty of thoughtful questions.

The visit ended with lots of smiles (and maybe some squeals) — and a chance for the kids to meet and pet Scout.

Plushies are $20 each. Challenge coins are $15 each or two for $20.

Items must be picked up in person at the Civil Window, located at 7180 W Barrister Dr. in Boise. Payment can be made via Venmo (- be sure to add a note that it's for K9s!) or cash.

As part of their weekly training, our K9s spent time on the shooting range with the ACTION team, where they were exposed to the sounds of live gunfire to help build confidence in high stress environments.

They also worked with inert pepper balls and practiced apprehending decoys attempting to flee a vehicle.

Meet K9 Boaz 🐾

K9 Boaz is named in honor of fallen Deputy Tobin Bolter. In this video, Abbey Bolter shares the meaning behind his name.

Deputy Orcutt and K9 Boaz recently certified in apprehension through Idaho POST. They are currently working toward dual certification in explosives detection. K9 Boaz is a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd.

K9 Boaz was purchased with funds donated by a private company in Deputy Bolter’s honor shortly after he died in the line of duty.

K9 Luna and Star Police Deputy Goldstein stopped by Ada County Dispatch this week to celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunications Week!

Our dispatchers are the calm in the chaos—the true lifeline behind every call—and we’re so grateful for everything they do.

Saturday night, we said goodbye to retired K9 Django.

Django was taken to a local veterinary hospital after becoming ill, where it was discovered he was suffering from a blockage believed to be cancer. After careful consideration, the difficult decision was made to let him go peacefully.

In his final moments, Django was surrounded by those who understood his service best—a group of K9 deputies who came to honor him and say their goodbyes.

Django joined our agency in 2016 as one of our first dual-purpose K9s, handled by Deputy Piccola. Over the course of his seven-year career, he deployed182 times, assisted in 51 surrenders, located/captured 21 individuals, and had 8 apprehensions. He also helped seize more than 26,000 grams of narcotics, with an estimated street value of $845,872.

After retiring in June 2023, Django spent his years being cared for by several of our K9 handlers.

Beyond his accomplishments, Django will be remembered for who he was: a loyal partner, a protector, and a good boy who gave his all.

We are grateful for his service and honored to have had him as part of our team.
