Governor Brad Little has declared March 15 – 21, 2026, as Flood Awareness Week in Idaho! We are already seeing major flooding in Idaho and as spring snowmelt and seasonal rain increases the risk of flooding, this week serves as a reminder for Idahoans to stay prepared and aware of their flood risk.

Get ready, Idaho! Join the Great Shakeout earthquake drill this Thursday, October 16th at 10:16 a.m. local time!

Earthquakes strike without warning, so it's important to know how to protect yourself when the ground starts shaking. Here’s what to do:

• Drop: Get down on your hands and knees to prevent being knocked over and to stay balanced.
• Cover: Protect your head and neck with one arm, and take cover under a sturdy table or desk if possible.
• Hold On: Stay put until the shaking stops. If you're under shelter, hold on to it with one hand in case it shifts.

Let’s work together for a more earthquake-prepared Idaho! Find out how you can participate: ioem.idaho.gov/great-shakeout-join-the-worlds-largest-earthquake-drill

IOEM is celebrating National Preparedness Month by getting out into the community and sharing simple, at-home preparedness tips anyone can use.

Last week at Caldwell’s Farm to Fork Farmers’ Market at Indian Creek Plaza, we had a great time talking with families and showing hands-on activities. Visitors got to see what goes into an emergency kit, check out a liquefaction demo showing how earthquakes affect the ground, and explore a shaketable that demonstrates why the materials we build structures from matter and how they perform during earthquakes.

We’ll be at Downtown Nampa's Third Thursday Street Fair tomorrow, Sept. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. Come say hi, try out the activities, and pick up some easy preparedness tips for your family.
