Many people may not realize that counties in Idaho are required to provide certain services, such as elections, public safety, land use planning, property assessments, and more.
The Ada County Board of Commissioners today signed a proclamation designating April 2026 as County Government Month. The proclamation is part of an annual nationwide effort to increase awareness of the critically important services counties provide to residents, visitors, and businesses every day.
“If you’ve voted in an election, registered your vehicle, called an ambulance in an emergency, taken a load of trash to the Landfill, attended the Western Idaho Fair, or floated the Boise River, you are using county services,” said Ada County Commission Chairman Rod Beck. “Ada County services make our communities economically robust, and we are grateful for the public servants who work each day to carry out these duties.”

Bikes that get dropped off at the Landfill's Diversion Area are donated to this program. When depositing bikes, please set them to the side so they don't get damaged in the scrap metal pile. Thanks!

Due to high demand, online requests for free bicycles through the Recycle a Bicycle Program are now closed.

But don’t worry! You can still attend the City of Meridian Parks and Recreation’s Explore Outdoors Bicycle Bonanza event on May 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to find one. Event volunteers will have bikes to demo and take home on a first-come, first-served basis as availability is limited.

📢Public Service Announcement📢
Please be aware that the fire in this picture is NOT a wildfire. Instead, it's a flare from the Ada County landfill biogas development. After receiving multiple false alarms, we've partnered with and to place signs with a QR code at Eagle Bike Park. By scanning the code, you can learn more about the flare and find contact info for those with questions. We're grateful for concerned citizens and hope this information reduces false alarms while educating about Ada County's natural gas program.

Today is International Battery Day in honor of the inventor of the electric battery, Alessandro Volta, born on this day. Yes, "volt" comes from Volta.

Rechargeable batteries should NEVER go in your trash or recycling bin. They can be deposited safely through our Household Hazardous Waste program.

Storing batteries safely before depositing:
-tape the ends of dead batteries
-keep them in a container or box that allows air to escape, avoid metal containers
-keep lithium-ion batteries separate from other types
-place in cool, dry place

What can go into your blue recycling cart? Plastic bottles, jars, and jugs labeled #1 and #2 are recyclable, including crinkly plastic water bottles. Plastic food tubs labeled #5, such as yogurt or butter containers, are also accepted! You can also recycle paper items like magazines and junk mail, along with clean cardboard and metal cans.
