We successfully wrapped up our Fall Career Summit at College of Western Idaho✨

This summit was extra special, our amazing GT alumni returned as volunteers to help interview and support current job seekers. 🧡

Participants learned about the job market, PAR storytelling, marketing themselves, and interview best practices, then put it all into action with two rounds of mock interviews and a networking session with professionals from across industries.

Thank you to our volunteers, alumni, and job seekers for making this event meaningful and inspiring!

Through our work, we’ve been able to assist participants by covering essential costs based on available funds and individual needs. Safiullah is such an inspiration to current and future job seekers. With the motivation and dedication within him, Safiullah has been able to secure a job as a project civil engineer for Amalgamated Sugar Company.

He is beyond thankful for the Global Talent team that recognized his great talent and came alongside him in training to help get him to where he is today.

Safiullah’s go-getter attitude can be seen through this simple quote that he left me with “I will not stop until I achieve what I set my mind to do. You haven’t reached your capacity yet and can always do more.”

Joel was just 18 years old when his security was in jeopardy, and he was forced to leave behind the Democratic Republic of the Congo and his sister. At this time, Joel knew little of the United States, and had never heard of a place called Idaho. Nevertheless, today he has become an integral part of the Boise community.

Back in his homeland, Joel was a highly educated individual who after receiving a bachelor’s degree in French and Media Studies and a Masters in French went on to become a teaching assistant at University of Cape Town. Now, nearly 8,000 miles away, he is able to use his expertise as the Coordinator for the IOR Refugee Speakers Bureau.

His journey from uncertainty to stability is a testament to the resilience and talent of many refugees. “People who are coming to Global Talent are already talented people,” he says. With the right support and opportunities, they too can rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to their new communities, just as he has.

The Trump administration has quietly paused the processing of green card applications filed by certain individuals, including approved refugees.

For the past two months, there have been drastic changes in our country and the field of humanitarian service. As a result, there is a dire need to remain encouraged and educated through this time. To learn more about how the executive order has impacted the Idaho resettlement community, read this article by Coeur d' Alene Press.

An executive order issued on Monday by President Donald Trump will suspend the arrival of refugees into the U.S. for at least 90 days.

Meet our intern:

Leah is currently at BSU pursuing a major in Global Studies with an emphasis in Governance and Development; as well as, a certificate in German and Conflict Management.

Throughout her college career she has developed a deep understanding and knowledge of the current refugee crisis, as well as obtained real world experiences.

Leah is extremely passionate about advocating and working with the displaced populations around the world, and is excited to be joining the Global Talent team as the Communications and Events Intern.

The Global Talent Employer Engagement Program partners with resettlement agencies and employers statewide to provide professional development and advanced English skills, empowering new Americans to succeed in the workplace. On January 14, we visited Twin Falls to engage with local employers.
